There was a 68 survivor at Frederick, MD this year with what appeared to be a brown or red oxide primer in the trunk and Keith who has the great looking 68 SS350 car told me his was red oxide.

I would like know that is the length of hold down bolt shown in the photos.

One inch in length with a .875 dia. captured washer.

Jeff, we had our front bezels re-chromed and they look great so I'd have no concerns if we had to do the re-chrome thing again. Our's like yours were in excellent condition but not for a restored car.

The rears had the foam gaskets to seal the trunk, The front did not have a gasket at all (no reason to seal the front frnder, and thats why they are different sizes and part number). If you can, re-use  ALL the original gaskets.... They fit proper. There is nothing worse than looking an a nice car and seeing the cheap hard gaskets sticking out of the doorhandles, miror, tail lights  and side markers.  Most people don't notice these things, It kills me.
Jeff, Do your side marker light bezels have black paint in the valleys?
    Victor
All of the originals I have looked including ours have/had the black paint in the valleys. Assume Jeff you have the orig. bezels as Victor hit on a very important point, that being the front bezels have a different width (thinner) and GM stopped making the thinner front bezel I believe in 1970 or not too long thereafter.

Update on this supject!
Recently a good friend brought a box of parts and told me to enjoy, wow!
You see, my friends Dad worked for the railroad where new cars came in.
He would find odds & ends along the rail tracks and pick them up.
Among the items in the box were 4 original battery clamps.
They were all painted (dipped) a semi-gloss black. The
clamp seemed like it was phosphated prior to paint and I did find a new stamping.
Before, the only clamp stampings I had found or heard about were 'K' stampings.
But one of the four had a 'C'.

The phosphate coated clamp under the paint.

The 'C' Stamping!

Wow. Beautiful car! I'm guessing you won't be driving it. I love the white vinyl roof. My favorite of all time.

Are you in Legends?
X2 on that John! Great looking car and looking forward to seeing.
What some of us are doing is hitting both shows. Friday at Frederick and Saturday at Carlisle plus my ol' 69 Nova L78 survivor I sold in 83 is on display.

I usually pay the price of admission and put display only on the windshield of my 69 SS 396.  In my mind parking lot or Sonic style car shows are for socializing and nothing more.
Interesting, you do realize this thread is over 5 years old??????

Restoration / Re: 69 Z/28 Correct leaf springs, where to buy?
« on: June 12, 2012, 12:35:08 PM »
Dosen't Eaton supply to the various dealers? Would they not be the most correct?
When I checked with them on restoring original leaf springs I found their hardware not to be technically correct plus I found one of our original main plies was cracked through the center hole. If I remember correctly Eaton mentions the hardware issue up front. A good friend purchased his from Heartbeat and the only major difference I could detect from originals was the missing GMC embossed logo found on the side of many leafs. Due to that review and discussions with East Coast Muscle Cars (they knew of several cars with them) I purchased a set from Heartbeat for our 68 restoration.

Mike,

Looks good. That may be similar to what Chick used to repair/restore his original pad.

Paul
Looks good Mike!
I used this flexible rubber coating from Rustoleum Paul.

Most March Z's have Feb wheels.

Thanks......that's what I figured

Danny, what was the norm as Kurt mentioned does not mean yours are not correct. Are all 5 dated the same?

Restoration / Re: Repo Kustom Header Differences?
« on: May 24, 2012, 02:33:16 AM »
Chick, I saw yours and the ones on eBay, wondered the samething. Jon's answer above explained the reason for the differences. I broke down and sold my Smog System, after Jerry was here a few years ago, we had talked about putting the headers back on over the smog, he agreed, with the cowl plenum, headers were the better choice.

Did you send yours out to get coated or do the yourself?

Thanks,
Paul

Sorry for the delay in answering Paul as I was away for a couple days the end of last week..... Jerry recommended a guy who turned out was only about an hour away so I went that route. By the way just finished making my own set of repro white header gaskets. Used a picture of an original set to model after.

Restoration / Re: Is my subframe saveable or beyond repair ???
« on: May 24, 2012, 02:23:40 AM »
Dave, I am not sure where you live however I have a very very clean 1968 camaro subframe there is no pit or rust on it at all I have owned it for 19 years it is in my heated and cooled basement, it does have some dents on the middle cross member (maybe from jacking) the mount hole are perfect it is from California, The best part is you can have it for free if you come and pick it up and promiss not to sale it for profit, it is free for your 68. The lower control arm bumps are correct for 68 camaro only. You don't even have to paint it there is not a scratch on it! other than the the bottom dents it is the cleanest I have ever seen, it is a bare subrame. I live in North Carolina.
Paul

Now that is what makes this hobby and the meeting of other car people so great. Good on ya Paul!

Welcome aboard first off and what a neat car you have secondly! congratulations........
Unless you plan on having the car judged I would not get too upset about the stickers as for the most part that is what everyone has been using and not very many know what is correct or not but as mentioned it would be wise to at least check and see what is correctly available. If you check Don's website you can see what he has to offer.
Welcome aboard again!
