Originality / Re: Documenting 68 Camaro Fasteners & Hardware
« on: January 30, 2013, 11:21:57 PM »
Radio Ground strap (68 AIM page 409) from body to sub-frame utilizes screw 9420152. The screw is a self tapping, 1/4-20 x 1/2", with indented head. Our originals were 'E' and can be purchased @Corvette Central #192117 (2 for $2). Paragon offers the same screw with "RBW" #11189K, 7 screws for $5.00  67/68 Corvettes used this screw for radio ground straps and the front crossover brake line clip. Note: AMK does not offer this screw! Please note both of these screws were zinc.

The other ground straps (68 AIM page 408) use screw 9420415. I have found three different types but there may be many more. AMK does offer this screw.

Originality / Correct starter restoration
« on: January 30, 2013, 10:55:59 PM »
I have noticed on some original (survivor) starters the end cover (not the nose end) seems to be phosphated and not painted black similar to the main black body noted to be 30-60% gloss black. Since I do have a picture to post I found a thread where JohnZ showed a picture of a 67 Corvette starter that displays exactly what I'm referring to. http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=4562.0 What is the consensus on the end cap, 30-60% gloss black or? The two screws that hold that cap on seem to be normally phosphated. Is that correct?

General Discussion / Re: L89 Camaro At Mecum, Not So....
« on: January 29, 2013, 01:31:20 AM »
I reviewed Mecum's Jan. auction cars in anticipation of going there back in December and that 68 was one of them as it was an eye catcher. My thoughts upon first reading it and reviewing several times later before this post hit was it was an original L78 car now sporting orig. type alum. heads but never thought or assumed it was an original L89. As many have said auction houses communicate what has been passed onto them and it's up to the potential bidders to determine what is correct. BUT, I can understand and agree that many of the descriptions leave a lot to be desired and are fashioned to be "you be the judge!" I was more interested in that red 62 bubble top 409/409hp Chevy :)

Oh do you have great potential there David! What a neat and interesting property. Not sure how I could help but anytime to brain storm whatever let me know. This is what I started with as it was a 10 stall working stable (pole buidling) 2.5 years old. As what you found the floors in the stall area itself were crushed stone with heavy rubber mats on top and then topped with wood chips. So the concrete work can become interesting like what's the best way to get it in? Fly crap gallore on the ceiling and one side of the building was basically pole building with beams and sheetmetal. Cleaned every square inch of the ceiling and walls with Lysol. Some pics starting off with how it looked when purchased and ending with present.

Here I got all excited thinking Ed was referring to San Marino, Italy. Watched antique race cars there back in 2005 or so. Just a great place to visit.  Sorry Ed, had to get that in.
buona sera tutti,

Originality / Re: Dimpled Carb Studs
« on: January 09, 2013, 01:23:35 AM »
I believe Chick is showing the stud at the carb's center, while the other studs are for attaching the carb to the manifold. JMO
Yes that is correct! Sorry if I confused things more......

Do not remember that being so defined but maybe! Here is a pic of a carb stud on a 68Z survivor. Notice the shoulder where it meets the carb! Having different suppliers one supplier might have had that from their particular mfg. process. Another member here said they have the same carb stud on their 69Z.

I'd be inclined to think you will not sell them quickly unless as Ed said someone needs them or you have them super cheap. And not many rodders looking for them either as it's either LS motors or alum. heads. But more important, are they all together (valves, etc) and seem usable?

This an old thread but I need an answer on the backing plates. Are these 5463565L & 5463566R brake backing plates correct parts for '69 Disk set up.
Daniel, I don't think so! My 67-69 book states the original part # was 5463496 & 5463497 (two piece rotors). I believe the 5463565 & 5463566 were later designs used on other cars like Chevelles with a one piece rotor.

Max, check out your radio ground strap screw locations in your 67 AIM, U63. There are three small holes in the cowl just for them and sounds like that might be what you are seeing. Can you post a picture of what holes you are referring to?

RK has been listing it for over a year....

Correct and maybe even many months longer. Great car with lots of history especially when its from where we live. We had the three S's, Jere Stahl, Dick Stiles, & Dave Strickler. Have pics of the car and die cast in the garage and we celebrated when we heard Dave had won the 1968 SS World Championship back in the day.

I'd put them on ebay to sell as you will have the best chance of obtaining a great market price. Agree about a neat way to having quality time with a teenager. Congrats to you (and the son) as the memories will be everylasting for both of you!

Just curious, why maybe back to the hobby "after you retire" and not now?
