Just wondering how many members are attending MCACN in Rosemont (Chicago area) which is now less than 3 weeks away. As some of you know from my build thread on Team Camaro we are taking our recently completed 68Z there. I've been addressing a few items that were rushed to complete in June and believe she is ready to go. Some of those recent updates I need to place in the build thread to keep that up to date but what's important here is, Who's Going? Anyone else taking a car?

Original Cars and Details / Details of a 68 RS Z/28

A real local 1968 RS Z/28 survivor purchased from Ammon R. Smith and has been local owned (2 owner) its entire car life. I had told Byron I was going to get this posted by July so a little late but hopefully we can get this moved to our CRG Survivor Category as there are a lot of neat features/pictures and things to discuss on this late 07D built Z/28 like how it was parked and reason why.

Originality / COPO Survivor Complete Smog Set-up--Wow

Good friend of mine just picked up a complete smog set-up that came off a 69 COPO hugger orange RS Camaro with white interior. Original owner told him he took it off when the car was two weeks old and it looks like it. Thought I'd post some pictures for future reviews as set-ups like this are rare and its pretty neat to see exactly what it was like from the factory. Great piece of Camaro history.

Originality / L89 at Local Car Show

A couple friends and I went to a local church car show today and there was a L89 Camaro there, and its a local car! Picture of the window sticker not very good due to behind glass and sun but the build sheet is amazing. Was told it was up under the dash area. Bergy was there also and maybe he saw it as well. They were expecting 1000 cars at this church show. Amazing!

General Discussion / 69 Medium Red Custom Interior 719

I have a good friend who owns a 69 Z/28 that is Garnet Red with the red custom (719) gut but the car was changed to hounds-tooth back in the 80's. I would appreciate if a member could contact me as my friend would love to have some pictures of a similar interior Camaro as he is going to put it back to original. Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to help.

Originality / Fuel Pump Backing Plate

I have this in our build thread but wanted to hopefully gain some opinions here among the experts. This summer I learned from a member that Legends Judging in Frederick, MD deducted points for not having the aforementioned backing plate painted black. I currently do not have mine painted and now have to decide to take off or let it the way it is. Why do I have it non-painted and bare metal? Well for two reasons! One, we know the fuel pump and plate were installed at the final assembly plant, not the engine plant and according to JohnZ (http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=8151.0) “The fuel pump mounting plate was normally installed as unpainted raw steel. The Chevrolet Central Office Paint Standards Department issued a "Painted Parts List" to the assembly plant Paint Superintendents which identified the raw parts which were to be primed black in the plant's small parts paint system; if a part wasn't on that list, it wasn't supposed to be painted.” And “in NCRS Flight Judging, we expect to see the mounting plate unpainted.” Second reason, before finding John's information I had two fuel pump backing plates in my box of parts, one from a 67 327 and the other from our 68 302 and guess what, one was painted black and the other bare metal. After the research I decided to have our plate bare metal for the engine re-build and restoration which I completed months ago but now I'm not sure what judges expect to see or what is the norm. I checked my friends two survivors (68 & 69 Z's) and both of those plates seem to be painted black. Checked with a well known restorer of Gen I Camaro's and other GM products and he communicated he's seen them both ways, both painted black and bare metal. If I'm going to change it to black now is the time but wondering what others have found as one part of me says to let it alone and the other says change it to not get into any BS. Penny for your thoughts/ideas/findings! Has anyone had points deducted for not having their fuel pump plate bare metal?

General Discussion / Who's coming to Frederick and/or Carlisle this week

Would like to meet some of the CRG & Team Camaro Brethren so who's coming to Frederick and/or Carlisle this coming week?
I know George is planning on being at Frederick with that great looking SS396 with air and a couple members including myself are to have cars in Carlisle's 1969 solid lifter display. I plan on being at Frederick Friday morning until the afternoon and then head north to Carlisle so hoping to see some great cars at both venues along with members.

I thought it was a good time to start a thread that hopefully over time we can add a huge amount of dealership information and memorabilia to for assisting others with what might be both available or to know what to even search for. Items like what a dealership used for advertising which includes all the things they placed on a car prior to sale. Dealer information on when a dealership went out of business or changed ownership and possibly names. With so many Chevrolet owners attempting to find out when their car was manufactured and the dealership that ordered now is a good a time as any to start. Hopefully this thread can compliment and assist others now and in the future.

Everyone probably knows Ammon R Smith was famous for Dave Strickler and Bill Jenkins 409 Chevrolets.


Ammon R Smith on Carlisle Ave. very close (almost across the street) from the York Fairgrounds, the Oldest running fair in the country.


That 2nd floor always seemed loaded with cars and a many a time we would check out what was there. Quick story! Our 69 L78 Nova had arrived and I went in to see it and like other cars I was told it's upstairs so I'm walking up this long ramp they drove the cars up and I hear this nice sounding car rumbling and a couple varooms to a healthy roar and to my surprise it was our Nova. They would leave the keys in the car and someone just got in, started it up and was revving it up. I told the guy it was my car, pulled the keys, locked it up, and immediately took the keys to the salesman. I could not pick the car up yet as I was not 21 and had to wait until I was 21 to apply for a loan at our credit union, so the car sat there for a few weeks. Oh the memories!

Original Cars and Details / Amazing 69 Z/28 Survivor

This is a true survivor and the best one I’ve been personally involved with but first a little history on this incredible Camaro. This NOR built late (09D) November, 1969 Hugger Orange Z/28 with black Houndstooth was purchased new in 1969 at Emrich Chevrolet in Manchester, PA. A good friend of mine purchased the Z/28 from that original owner and I just had the good fortune of tagging along and assisting with documenting both the change in ownership and its originality.  The car has 21,672 original miles and was stored the last 19 plus years in a corner of a downstairs basement under the house. One of two reasons this car is so special IMHO is the car was garaged from day one, and the owner had a 2nd car he used for daily transportation. By the way, he still has that 2nd car, a 1962 Nova.  

 
Inside the door resides a tag stating an oil/lubricant change took place May 11, 1978 with 21, 229 miles. And a receipt verified the same information. Gee, just 443 miles in almost 36 years.


Here the Z/28 is seeing daylight for the first time in over 19 years. Was car covered in the corner stall but still dusty and the tires looked dingy but incredible how it still shined when it finally hit the Sun.

Originality / Hardware to attach Alternator Brkt. to Kustom Headers

Many of you know we are restoring a 68 Z/28 that had the air cowl plenum. Since I could not correctly utilize the smog set up with that set up I decided to purchase the repro Kustom Headers but not sure what would be deemed correct for the hardware (bolts, washers, nuts) to attach the alternator bracket to the repro Kustom Header bracket. I was hoping someone here has a similar set up and has had the car judged. I was going to use a shouldered phosphate bolt and combination lock washer and nut.

General Discussion / Chrome Plating

I posted this in my build thread but know many search topics and wanted to communicate how great a pleasure its been working with Jon at Custom Chrome Plating. One deals with many people during a restoration and for the most part its just goes with the process, sometimes can be aggravating, but once in awhile a company or individual stands out or excites the customer which in this case is ME. 😊 If anyone is looking for chrome work and a company that does it correct from the actual chrome plating to how they handle their business and customers then try Jon Wright’s CCP Custom Chrome Plating in Grafton, OH. I had some issues with a prominent platter and East Coast Muscle Cars recommended trying CCP back a couple years ago and wow what a difference.  I myself have sent many there and everyone has been extremely happy with the results. I’ve talked to Jon several times and he’s even called me to assist and offer suggestions. The CCP team have chromed many parts for both our 68Z and some Corvette parts and each time its like Christmas when you open the box. And this past Nov. Jon the CCP team celebrated 45 years in business. For sure when I have our car completed and have a placard thanking contributors Custom Chrome Plating will be prominently identified. Thanks Jon! Great guy to deal with and like us, a car guy first. Some more original parts off our car recently chromed & received. By the way the red bag holds the two screws also re-chromed for the qtr. window trim.
