4204  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Re: VIN / Cowl Tag Discrepencies on: May 31, 2007, 03:31:09 PM
Thanks for clearing that up, The  color of my car is Hugger Orange with a Black Vinyl roof...I'm curious if it is right....Can you help de-code this for me ?

 my cowl tag reads

ST69  12437 NOR201411BDY
TR  712                    72 BPNT
12A

69freak -

The color of your car is correct.  72 B = Hugger orange with black vinyl top.  To decode the rest of your trim plate, see this link:

4205  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: Correct Carburetor for 69 Camaro 396-325 hp on: May 31, 2007, 12:22:40 PM
Steve -

According to "Chevrolet by the Numbers", the 7029201 is the correct carburetor for your engine.  The 7029215 is listed for the 396cid/350hp Camaro engine with manual transmission.  Everyone agree?

I hope you're not in a rush for those XG wheels.  I called him today and his answering machine said he would be in Belize until mid-July (must be nice).  I'll try again then.

Month and day dated DF wheels in 68 are worth about $250 ea.

Even a complete set with the exact same date?  That should be worth something extra.   Wink

The 67 and early 68 wheels are the hardest to find with just the inverted DF stamping. These are the big buck wheels that go for $600 and up each.

Good to know.  I have five of these wheels on my 02C '68 Z/28.   Smiley

Rich -

I took my kids to see the movie "Shrek the Third" over the weekend.  At the movies they showed us the trailer for the new movie "Transformers" coming out on 7-4-07.  This movie looks too cool.  One of the "good" transformers is a second generation Camaro named "Bumblebee" (yellow with black Z/28 stripes).  They also showed scenes from the movie with the 2009 Camaro concept car (also yellow with black Z/28 stripes).  Go to the link below and click on "Exclusive Trailer" to see both of these cars in action!  Don't forget to turn on the sound...

Millions of Americans will get to see the "new" Camaro for the first time on Independence Day!  Talk about marketing.   Smiley

Anyway, I can't wait.   Cheesy

The best way to handle this situation is to give your wife one of them!  Especially for a birthday or an anniversary gift.  It works everytime!   Grin

If the dates are July 16 68, they may not have even went on a production 68 z/28 and may be a service replacement wheel. That would lower the value, IMO

Jonesy -

These wheels (and the other sets I mentioned) are all off production cars.  This guy is super meticulous (never married, no kids, same job for 30 years, spends his lunch hour at the auto salvage yard next door, etc...).  Anyway, he has every part labeled with:

The date he pulled the part.
The make, model, and production date of vehicle he pulled it from.
Price he paid.
Anything else he feels is relevant.

The service replacement wheels were available after '68 Z/28 production was complete and therefore are date stamped accordingly.  Like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=280119160995&rd=1&rd=1

There are other differences between the production and service replacement wheels all covered in detail in Jerry's '67/68 fact book.
