4171  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Maintenance / Re: Coolant fill level on: October 23, 2007, 11:25:50 AM
There's no advantage to using all coolant - in fact, there's a disadvantage; pure anti-freeze isn't as effective in terms of heat transfer as a 50-50 mix. Using the specified 50-50 mix provides more than adequate corrosion protection for the cooling system.

Here's the proof:  http://www.eetcorp.com/antifreeze/freeze_points.gif

Was there a difference between LA tags and Norwood tags?

Yes, there is a difference Tom.  Read this for all the details:  http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#CowlTag

Thanks Mike, Ed (great photos!), and Kurt for your expertise and opinions.  I'd hope to inspect the vehicle myself this morning, but couldn't get away from work before the vehicle sold:

B = Blue, Black, or Brown??    Huh   Is the car's original color blue, black, or brown?

Thanks Tom, "68lowered", Ed, and Kurt!

Tag looks OK, IMO.
Trans looks a little early, but very possible.

Do the engine and trans have VIN stamps? Any pics of the any of the engine/trans stamps?

Yes, the engine and transmission are VIN stamped.  The transmission assembly code may not be accurate, it's based on my best guess from this photo:  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/scalia/P1010144.jpg

Here's a photo of the engine assembly code:  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/scalia/P1010122.jpg

And a photo of the partial VIN stamped on the engine pad:  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/scalia/P1010121.jpg

These are the seller's photos.  So, are the stampings original?  Thanks again...

More info:

- VIN: 124379L512979.  Anything in the database on this one?

- Engine assembly date:  1209

- Transmission asssembly code:  P9R23A

Does anybody see any problems with these numbers/dates?  Thanks in advance.    Smiley

I feel my old decal is part of the documentation of the car being a Z.

Ditto!    Smiley

I would leave it. I would rather have the old original one than a repop one.
