General Discussion / Re: 302 hemi prototype with crossram

From what I had read about these heads, there was nothing "wrong" with them at all.  GM and Smokey worked the snot out of them and were unable to show that the gain in HP was going to be worth the additional tooling, engineering and production costs.  It seems that there was some kind of plateau they hit like 385hp with the Hemi heads on the 302.  Hemi is kind of a 'catch name' for them; they aren't a Hemi head in the traditional sense.  It's more of a splayed valve head like a big block chevy than a Hemi head.

It is originally a 52 52 red with black stripes car, but was resprayed blue with white.  MANY areas on the car exhibit the red underspray.  I don't think its the first coat of paint it ever had; where its chipped off, it's pretty thick.  I'll eventually strip it and put it back to red.   Yes, it does have X7 on the bulkhead.

Kurt, do you keep track of all '69 Z VINs, or only those that have been verified correct?  Wondering if mine is on your list....19N521696.

Originality / Original calipers, '69 Z
« on: January 09, 2007, 02:03:54 PM »
My '69 Z and I have only been seeing each other for about 3 months now, but I finally got her to take her bottom off last night  ;D I pulled the front wheels to inspect the brakes.  When hitting the brakes, the car initially makes a lurch to the right, then straightens out if you quickly get to the brakes again.  Both calipers are cast with "DELCO MORAINE", and have some other stuff cast into them.  Were the calipers originally Delco Moraine like the booster, or are they replacement parts?  Are there casting dates or anything that would help tell their age?  Sorry, but I don't have a picture handy.   Thanks for the information....

Originality / Re: 1969 Z/28 proportioning valve

Thanks for the info fellas.  I was wondering.  Everything else on the car points to a true Z, so this had me a little puzzled.  It's one of those things that the less informed people point out and say "clone" unless the car has it.

Originality / 1969 Z/28 proportioning valve
« on: December 29, 2006, 01:09:13 PM »
I have an early '69 Z (10C).  Nowhere on the car do I find a proportioning valve for the rear brakes.  From what I have read, they were all on the subframe rail under the drivers seat.  This car does not have one, and also shows no signs that any brake lines were tampered with in the past.  There is a remanufactured master cylinder on the car.  Did all '69 Z's, (or all disc brake cars for that matter) have the porportioning valve on the subframe, or was it a later addition to 69's?  Thanks.
