Maintenance / Re: Low brake pedal after booster installation?
« on: January 16, 2007, 12:41:40 AM »
also be sure to check the check valve-- if defective it can restrict the vac that goes to the booster- and also check engine vac(car running) to meet man. specs.  the check valve keeps gas vapors form hurting the diaphram in the booster

67rs350ss is correct . if everthing is in place correctly everthing will work fine( i have worked on ............. in 35 years( millions do dollars of engineering should not go to waste- and always match up ss plate and gasket to the base of carb and also the intake surface. another clue is to always use the studs and not use bolts to fasten the carb(over the long term it does make a differance)

please check your choke pull of( check the line for proper vacuum first) the pull of could be defective and not crack open the choke plate at all(rich) or if not properly adjusted it could pull the choke plate too far open(lean)

Maintenance / Re: fuel pump gasket is leaking oil
« on: January 16, 2007, 12:21:20 AM »
also sometimes oil can leak out of the vent holes that are in the fuel pump itself-(sometimes gas also can leak out of these holes(of course the pump is bad)--also on the fuel pump rod you can use and old hacksaw blade to hold it up or on a cold engine grease will help hold it also

Maintenance / Re: Voltage regulator not working properly?
« on: January 16, 2007, 12:16:38 AM »
in a repair shop years ago we always checked the voltage when new parts were replaced-Voltage when engine is running-  thats why the cover comes off the regulator- you can adjust the finial voltage out put(at the batter) to gm specs

i have delt with thse systems mostly on 68-69-and........ vettes- please make sure your one way valve is working properly--vacuum in the proper direction and it does not permit gas vapor(vacuum comes from the intake) to contaminate the system(usually happens if valve is defective)  the gas vapor will injure these vacuum diaphrams and cause them not to  work properly over a period of time

Maintenance / Re: Heater Core
« on: January 15, 2007, 11:53:24 PM »
if the tubes are good in your orginial heater core, a good radiator shop can recore it and use your old end caps- a new heater core-they pressure check it after repair

from my old garage tech memory- most GM products had a rear bracket on the rear of the ps pump--this bracket then was bolted on to one of the motor mount bolts( a bolt that holds the mount to the block.  with out this bracket the pump was not stable-I fixed a lot of these in the 70s & 80s  when the motor we put in under trees.

General Discussion / Re: Stupid question of the day
« on: December 15, 2006, 09:22:23 AM »
Lakehome is very correct-living in "the day" as they call it- the sixtys was high perf .......I can remember the car books and the real streets and what was being drivin on them and what all my friends and I drove-horsepower and emblems were a big deal and we did the same things they do now. If they didnot have it -they made it look like they did. The horsepower wars among the big three auto makers made the sixtys a wonderful time.

well back in the day I had a friend that was a wrench for Gordon Johncock when he got started racing and have been around 1960s circle tracks.  This friend had two GM ZL1's in his garage and I had another friend that had bought the engine (crate) from a chev dealer and used it for drag racing. I really wonder how many could be out there(the engine that is)

If too much fuel is a concern-rejet the carbs for a more friendly street use and if you use a point and condenser dist system, recurve the dist and adjust the timing accordingly. I am a retired 35 year tech and came from the age of all these goodies- we used the fuelys and i had several 2 fours set ups and also a manafree( 4 duces)  and used these for every day driving and also crusing. just another word to the warning- check oil for gas in crankcase -change it more often.  you can have the fun of it all , just use common sense
