46  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: Tower Clamps on: March 06, 2011, 06:33:53 PM
I recently purchased a couple of dated repop tower clamps, one 69 and another 70.  Both were dated like this   4/69 and the other 4/70

I think the originals were dated alpha/numerically like maybe c/9  Huh

Either way I got em for 99 cents each, seller said they were from Year 1.  I called Year 1 and they say they only sell undated..... so seller must have done it.

BTW tower clamps still used on 70 Camaro's so not discontinued by then........

Its on the rough cast area by the oil filter... so put some clear coat and just left it covered with that.... nice find though.  Cheesy
Not sure who to give credit to... read about acid lifting vin some where before I tried it....
48  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: 68 idiot lights on: March 06, 2011, 10:00:34 AM
Sender # 01513321 is correct

My car with gauges and has that unit.  It's a 1969, but I don't think they changed.

The pic on the left is for the 'idiot light' I am very sure......
49  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Acid wash reveals vin on engine block on: March 06, 2011, 09:47:44 AM
Hey all.... when I purchased my 69, the previous owner told me there was no vin on the block.  A couple of years ago I spent some time with some Muriatic acid and washed the rough casting beside the oil filter...

The Vin showed up and I got several photo's before it 'disappeared' again....   the vin plate is for comparison you can make out most numbers..

You might also want to start a 'web Album' There are lots of programs that allow you to upload a large file to the Web to keep important pics available. Picassa is free from Gogle, Webshots is another. Then you can link to the picture and it wil bring up a separate picture of any size, in a separate browser window.  A little tricky at first but gets easier.

Yes a pic is worth a thousand words...

Camaroman

Huh      I  believe I posted a comment last week that may have been removed....I am not sure as it it not here.

In the post is said      'don't hold your breath waiting for a pic'
What I really meant to say was that 'I am holding my breath waiting for a pic'

If my post was removed because it was inappropriate, I apologize.   If I have alzheimers and never made the post, just entirely disregard anything I post.     Huh
52  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: Vinyl or Not? on: March 02, 2011, 09:03:48 PM
I like the tops on some colors but I never liked them on 69. The body color on the drip rail leading to the trim with the vinyl edge is way too busy of a design detail to compliment the rest of the body. I like the designs of the 68 and 67. The 69 design makes it look like its going bald to me.

I have been thnking of putting the top back on my 68 as it should have it. I am on the fence though.

Love it on the 67-8.  Just don't understand why they did that to the 69.  So if I had a 67-8 I would love the vinyl roof.  If I had a 69, I'd give it a hair cut!

54  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Restoration / Re: rosewood dash on: February 27, 2011, 06:19:14 PM
Yes I have repaired.... improved the look significantly.  I have a original console that had corrosion around the bezel and it lifted and deteriorated the original wood grain vinyl.  I used some gel stain, rubbed it in and rubbed it off.  It took to the areas where the vinyl was scratched and darkened the lifted areas.  Looked much better,  If you are worried try a small area under the edge and you will see that it does not cause any negative consequences..... I used Varathane gel-stain.
55  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Restoration / Re: 69 Rally Sport parking light trim rings? on: February 27, 2011, 05:20:38 PM
Exact wording when ordering a Pace car.... must order Rally Sport Equipment, which included concealed headlights, special grille, and special exterior accents. ($131.65)

I've gone through my pictures but cant find any clear shots from the original race... but I will post one when I can remember how to do it.....
When you own a particular model car, you tend to look at the same one's. I just can't buy it that there was no bright trim on the Pace Car park lamps as I've seen too many... I agree that so much time has passed that virtually everyone has seen some freshening up. I'd only be happy hearing from someone who owns one from day one.  My opinion is that the bright work was reserved and used on the Pace cars as part of the special exterior accents.

Here is a car that the previous owner obviously wasn't interested in restoring in any fashion... and it has the trim.  It is a documented find, not mine but I have other pics of the cowl tag etc.
I would not mind hearing from original or long term owners with bullet proof documentation that there was or wasn't trim on the park lamps.

Cheesy We better notify the guys at the 'Heritage Museum'  Last time I looked they had them on USA 1
57  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Restoration / Re: 69 Rally Sport parking light trim rings? on: February 27, 2011, 10:24:18 AM
Great info, thanks. But it now muddies my water. My son's is a 12C Norwood car. So if I read correctly it wold have them, although not an absolute. A clue may be the fact that the originals are missing along with the tail lights and back up lights?!?!? However, the wiper motor, washer bottle, headlight switch, plumbing, canisters and inner fenders are in place, as well as the firewall hole being press cut. So by deductive reasoning, his car should have them, right? Any thoughts.

Thanks again, Kevin

I believe so. They are no longer included in the description for RS equipment as of the 2 Jan 69 dealer ordering info.

But they were included with the description of the SS/RS Pace car... no?
58  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: Is this Coil bracket specific to 69' Z/28? on: February 03, 2011, 10:05:34 AM
There is no bracket that is 'specific to the Z28'... lots of discussion whether that is the correct one for a cowl induction hood which placed the coil at a steeper angle...
There are documented Z28 without the notch... don't know the app for that exactly but I have seen this style and own a spare...
59  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: opinions---CE block or close original on: February 02, 2011, 11:09:47 AM
T
Restoration blocks (blocks that are restamped to match the car) will net you more points at a show than a CE without dealer paperwork.

Hope this helps,

Jerry

Wow!!  So you get bonus points for re-stamping a block.  Sounds like NCRS creeping in.  Recreating a car and getting praise for it.  Then it gets sold and muddied up and someone gets burned.  Don't like the idea that re-stamping gets you praise nor points.  I must be missing something here   Huh
60  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: 2011 Indy Pace Car on: January 23, 2011, 12:33:01 PM
Apparently 50 Festival Cars, then another 500 Tribute (Replica) Pace Cars..... 550 Cars total.  Anyone have an idea if a list price has been established yet?
