Thanks Jon for the info, so Smokey had some other Camaros that ran at Bonneville were they black and gold as well.

Yes, they were.  Here's a link to a thread about Smokey and his cars...

Smokey had more than one 1st-gen Camaro but the car he tried to run at Riverside in late '67 was the same car that he tried to run at the Daytona 24hr.  They only let him run practice laps and not the actual race.  The same car was then made legal enough to run at Sebring in late March '68.  Smokey had some other Camaros that ran at Bonneville (along with the '67) and which also ran in Nascar GT.

I don't have Edelbrock instructions for the Edelbrock STR-10 for Chevy small block and have never seen them either.  Hopefully somebody else here has a copy and is willing to post it for us.  Thanks for posting the AMC version.  If you could edit them to be a little larger it would make it easier for some of us to read.

I spoke with Pat Ryan earlier this week.  The car did not sell at the Gooding auction.  I believe the car opened at $950K for bidding but received no offers.  Pat says the car is available at a reduced expectation so if anybody has the means to follow suit, Pat can be contacted at https://www.prismacars.com .

The first '67 Penske Trans-Am Camaro is coming up for auction during the Monterey Historic race weekend.  For those with deep pockets, here's your chance to own a very cool piece of history.  I went to Austria with Pat Ryan several years back when he located the car and helped verify that it was the real deal prior to purchase.

Steve, thanks for the photos.  I hope your shake down test went well and you are pleased with how the car performed.  The cage in the car does not appear to have any resemblance to the two other cars that I know which were prepared at Dana Chevrolet.  Is there any number stamped on the main hoop and, if so, do you mind sharing?  The Dana-prepared cars also typically had pins that helped secure the doors in place and I don't see any evidence of that.  Still very neat that it was sold new at Dana though.

Nice work, Mike.  I know very few people who find the rear flares on the T/G Firebird to be attractive but you have made some very faithful reproductions that certainly look the part.  It's a pity about that door gap but if you can't improve it, I don't know who could.  Are you going to finish this car so it is representative of how it was for a certain race?  I was curious about the exhaust style you were going for.  If you mentioned it previously, I have forgotten.

I believe they are all custom made and that none of it is from an off-the-shelf item.  They are inherently similar but not identical.  This is in reference to the '69 era fillers with the filler doors which you push and the door flaps downward.  The one on the #56 Guldstrand built car (shown below) has an oval shaped attachment that goes down and back and the door underneath flips down in the opposite direction.

My Johnny Moore car has the 3.5" diameter Enots style cap which is sometimes referred to as a Sebring or LeMans filler caps.  I have not ever heard of it called an Aston style cap but it very well could be on the other side of the Pond.

Steve, in 1967 there were four Camaros that I know of that were built at Dana Chevrolet. Bobby Joe McDonald was the primary builder for all four cars. None of the four had a full roll cage when initially built but had bars added to make full cages later. The main hoop shape was identical for all four cars and the attached photo shows the general shape of what that looks like. The white car was driven and owned by Tom Lynch and had Dana sponsorship at Sebring in March 1967. Next to it is Dick Gukdstrand's blue car, also Dana sponsored. Both of these cars survive today and are accounted for. The other two cars were red and prepared by Dana Chevrolet for the Ron Tonkin racing team up in Portland, Oregon. These two cars are presently unaccounted for. The roll cage hoop in your car appears to be shaped differently than the white car in the photo so even though it was sold new through Dana it may not have raced until later and may have been set up for racing by somebody else. Share as much information as you can and we'll see what we can figure out.

Very interesting car, Steve.  Thanks for posting here and I look forward to seeing more pics.  I know Bob Morton but did not realize this car came from Dana Chevrolet and raced in Southern, CA.  Is there any evidence on the car of what the original color may have been?  If a trim tag is still on the firewall it would be behind/above the brake master cylinder area.  I suspect it is long gone but hope to be surprised.

Yes, it was raced by Peter Reinhardt for Francis McNamara Racing in '68 in Germany and other places on the continent with Sunoco sponsorship.

http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=10933.0

Helmut Marko took over driving duties for 1969 and the car was raced in KLM livery.
Francis McNamara sold the car to Franz Albert in Austria after the '69 season.  He successfully raced it for a few years before selling it to lesser accomplished racers (also in Austria).  It eventually just got parked, disassembled, and sat for many years.
