Did they try to section the rad supports to lower the front end profile? That would be trick...

Yes, that sort of thing (and other stuff too) definitely occured. I remember a conversation I had with Dan Lipetz, the current owner of the '70 Parnelli Jones Boss 302. He told me you can't take a stock '70 Mustang fender and hang it on the front of a (Bud Moore built) Mustang like his. It won't come close to fitting. He said you might as well be trying to hang a Camaro fender on it. His point was the fender was sectioned and modified to decrease the frontal area of the car and lower the nose. These sorts of changes occured less as you moved down the food chain from well-funded to low-funded teams.

The Washburn Chevrolet sponsored '67 Z-28 was from Santa Barbara, CA and was a very competitive "privateer" entry.
Here it is shown winning an A/Sedan race at Willow Springs. Tony Settember was the driver and Bob Joehnck was the
team manager and engine builder. This blue Z-28 is rumored to still be around as it was sold to a collector who later
ended up in jail. Anybody know of it's whereabouts?

Here is a photo of the original '68 Penske Camaro's engine compartment. This is the one that started the '68 racing season at Daytona.
This photo was taken before Daytona. It shows a Camaro-style radiator rather than the Corvette aluminum one seen later that year. The
Bill Thomas headers are yellow like Penske's crew had painted them in '67. There are many other details to see but the big one is the
magnesium factory cross ram. I know the owner of a magnesium GM cross ram, most likely the only one made and the one that is seen
in this photo.

Really cool, Chad. Thanks for posting!

Anybody else have more of this for Firebirds?

Thanks, Bruce. Hey Chad, would it be possible for you to post the Firebird SCCA paperwork you have? I've never seen it before and would love to see more.

Here's a photo of Craig Fisher's 302 engine in his '67 Gorries "Black Panther" Z-28. This was taken during tech inspection for Sebring, late March 1967.
At Daytona in early February, the car had the power brake booster and the cowl plenum duct to the firewall but as you can see they have already been
removed and modified for Sebring.

Chad, those are terrific photos of the Pontiac cross ram. The comparison with the Camaro piece is great as well. I sure do appreciate you posting them and I'm sure others do as well.

I saw this unusual part on ebay, item # 280667970525, and wondered if Mike (Cuda48) or anybody else had further information about it.
Here's the description...

For auction is a brand new, never used plate with the part numbers of Edelbrock STR-15TQ and also CHRY-369-0652.   According to a tech at Edelbrock whom I e-mailed for information, this is a cross ram intake for 383 low deck Chryslers,  originally designed for trans-am racing.      Please do your homework before bidding if you are not familiar with this item,  because I don't know much about this type of thing....and can only give the above information I've listed.   Please see the pictures for reference-- the entire part is approximately sized 18 x 13 x 1 --   and weighs 6 lbs 6.8 oz.

From the '69 Crane Cams catalog...

Original newspaper announcing the 1968 Daytona 24 hour race, which included the Trans-Am cars that year.

There were many companies and shops that ported heads back in the day. Some may not know it
but Crane Cams offered fully competitive ported heads directly from their catalog. These were called
"Super Port Flow" heads and were also known as "Fireball" heads. They featured round exhaust ports
like most professional porting shops were doing back then. I have an original set of these Crane heads
I'm using on my '67 race car.

These pages are from the '67 Crane Cams catalog.

Here's a cross ram air cleaner base fabricated by Gary's dad and some original cross ram air filters.

1967 Lakewood ad for Camaro. Oddly, the photo is not a Camaro scattershield. Looks like one for a Chevy II/Nova.

I did not have any luck finding a Trans-Am Camaro with Cragars on it but here are a couple of photos of Ron Grable's
Dart, which did use them. Also, the Bob Barker '67 Mustang used them.

I guess you could say some people/teams scrutinized the rule book a little more carefully than others.  :D
