Trans-Am Camaros / Jerry Lagod Trans-Am Camaro
« on: April 06, 2013, 05:46:11 AM »
Here are some current day photos of Jerry Lagod's Trans-Am Camaro. Jerry bought the car new and it was a butternut yellow '68 Z/28 that
was never driven on the street and got turned into a race car right from day one. The car was damaged at Meadowdale in 1970. It was raining
during the race and the car left the track and damaged the frame and the bodywork. The car got repaired but was reskinned as a '69 model
and painted white. It raced in 11 Trans-Am races in the '72 and earlier era and went on to race in SCCA GT-1 before getting retired in 1986.

More pics to come...

Trans-Am Camaros / Models of old race cars
« on: January 02, 2013, 08:38:55 PM »
Here's a photo of a model of the Gagnon Spring '68 Chevy II/Nova. The model was built by
Rob Mepham and the decals are by Trevor Taylor. Both Rob and Trevor are Canadians and they
get a lot of enjoyment of of replicating some of their favorite Canadian race cars.

Here's a photo of the actual Chevy II/Nova in the paddock during the weekend of the '68 St. Jovite Trans-Am race.

We are always on the lookout for more photographs to add to the various race reports and other items that we are gathering together to showcase the history of the great Trans-Am series. If you are a driver, former crew member, or had other pertinent involvement, we'd love to hear from you. If you know the history of a particular car, whether it ended up getting destroyed or not, please fill us in. There are quite a number of instances where the same car raced in Trans-Am under one color scheme and driver combo and went on to be repainted and driven by a different driver. Do not take for granted that we know this. If you don't know how to post photos, don't worry. I have no problem helping you out. Either send me a private message on this forum or send me an email at jon.mello "at" verizon.net. We have been extremely fortunate to have terrific contributions from Ron Lathrop and Jerry Melton which have yielded outstanding coverage of races such as the '69 Michigan Wolverine Trans-Am and the '69 Mid-Ohio Trans-Am, just to name a few. We'd like to continue to do that again for other years and other races. Thanks to all for your consideration and help in this regard.

Trans-Am Camaros / 1968 St. Jovite Trans-Am (Le Circuit Mont Tremblant)
« on: September 16, 2012, 05:36:25 AM »
We are fortunate to have some photos shared with us from our Canadian friend and Chaparral enthusiast, Mike Scott (group/7).
Mike took these photos himself back in the summer of '68. We'll start out with some from the Penske Camaro team.

Both Penske Camaros parked in the paddock area.

Mark Donohue's #6 Sunoco Camaro, as seen from the rear.

Here's the interior of Sam Posey's car. Notice the use of a billet aluminum hub for the steering wheel.
This was unusual for the era but was also something they did in '67 on Donohue's original Camaro.

Donohue's Camaro is pointed toward the grid but for some reason it appears as though they are pushing it uphill.

The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is having a tribute to George Follmer in November that Bud Moore may be present for, if he's able.  Here's a link to info on the Petersen Museum's website.  George drove for Roger Penske in '67, the Javelin team in '68 and late '71 through '72, and the Bud Moore Mustang team in between so he has a depth of knowledge and experience with the various Trans-Am teams that few, if any, can match.

Also - Ed Justice, Jr. is publishing a biography of George Follmer sometime next year.  Ed has a notification list he's building to advise when the book is available and he can be reached by e-mail at ed@edjusticejr.com for anybody wanting to be added to the list.

Trans-Am Camaros / Cowl plenum air cleaner, cold air induction, etc
« on: August 12, 2012, 10:31:12 PM »
An NOS cowl plenum duct, real GM part, fresh from the box, courtesy of Jim Webb.
This duct attaches to a hole cut in the RH top of the firewall either by the dealership
or car owner and directs cold air from outside the car at the base of the windshield
to the metal cowl plenum air cleaner which mates to the duct via a rubber sleeve.
The duct is made of injection molded plastic, not fiberglass, and is smooth inside and
out. There is a top half and a bottom half which are glued together and 6 screws hold
it to the firewall. Many thanks to Jim Webb for sharing this very rare part of his with us!

Trans-Am Camaros / GM racing lap belts
« on: August 11, 2012, 11:04:08 PM »
Here's a set of NOS racing lap belts fresh out of the GM box. A curious item. The 8-digit part number of 14029861 is not something that was around back in the '60s or early '70s and these belts are not found in the parts books from back then. These belts do show up in Robert Lodewyk's 1982 GM parts book however. Interesting that they have the Rupert Industries name on them, which is an old-time seat belt manufacturer. Many thanks to Robert Lodewyk for sharing these with us.
