Originality / early 68 ash tray finish

What is the correct finish for the ash tray on a 12d built camaro. Is it smooth or pebble grain?I think smooth is correct,but not sure. It has the walnut around the radio and heater controls. The mid and later cars recieved the walnut ash trays when the car had the walnut surround. anyone?  thanks John Allouez Restorations

Purchased my plane ticket for the GM show in June. I have been couped up in the house/garage all winter,cant wait till June. This is the best and only judged camaro event going. Hopefully I will have my car there next year to be judged. Who else has plans to go?  John

What is the correct amount of gloss on the arms?I know they are alittle bit more glossy then the sub frame,but how much more? Would a 100 gloss be to much? thanks John ???

Originality / original small block spark plug heat shields

I am going to replate my original heat shields for my 68z,what is more correct  silver zinc or silver cad.The repops are galvinized which I believe is incorrect.Siilver zinc might be alittle to bright. The nos ones that I have seen look silver cad plated?What is more durable cad or zinc? Thanks John

Originality / groove machined in original rear brake shoes

I just looked at my original rear shoes from my 69z and the front shoe (rear brakes) has a groove machined in the lining.I think these are the true original shoes that the left the factory with. The groove is about a 1/2 wide. Thanks John      Are these correct?????

Restoration / original freeze plugs

Does anyone know were to purchase a set of freeze plugs with no writing on them. All of the replacement ones have some kind of marking stamped on them.The originals have nothing stamped on them. Thanks John

Decoding/Numbers / 1968 z/28 front calipers

I just removed my calipers to send out and get sleeved.The left outer is dated 188 left inner 249 , right outer 254 right inner 188. The car is a 12d build date.These calipers same way earlier.What should I do ? find another pair or go with these?The calipers look like they have been on the car since 1968.Thanks John

Originality / Original 68z plug wires

Removed the original plug wires from an original 68z tonight and I found something interesting.The car was built 07c some of the plug wires were the second quarter and some the third.Has anyone ever seen this before? The car is a low mileage super original untouched car.The intake was never removed or anything else.  John

Originality / 1968 z/28 smog pump bracket intake bolts

Does anyone know if the two longer intake bolts that are bolted through the smog bracket use lock washers? most all other brackets use locks , alternator,ps ,smog adjusting brace ect... not sure on these intake bolts?   thanks John
