Mild Modifications / 15x8 & 15x10 best backspacing for 1968
« on: April 30, 2007, 10:18:39 PM »
I am ordering new rims for the rear of my vehicle. I'm either going with 15x8's and have std choices of 3.75 or 4.75 backspacing or 15x10 w/ 4.00bs. Any suggestions on what bs to choose for stock suspension. Tire size will liely be 255/60-15 but may want to go 295/50-15's.

Thanx T

I think i'm going to officially turn in my man card.

Sorry to trouble everyone - I have found out that self grounding sockets work much better when you install them into the tail lamp housings that they are supposed to ground out on (right here is where i'm banging my head on the desk repeating over & over, "stupid-stupid-stupid"). thanx for the quik responses - and i'm just going to go over here in the corner and be quiet now.

tail light problem

I'm having a problem that I can't track.

It's a std 2 wire setup. The brake lights work when the headlights are off (I checked and have 12v at the 1st wire on both sides), when the HL's are on the brake lights stop working and the tailights don't come on (I checked and have 12v at both wires on both sides). When I let off the brake with the HL's on the taillights still don't come on (I checked and now have 12v at the 2nd wire on both sides). So i'm uber confused cause according to the vt meter everything should be working??? I have tried multiple bulbs to make sure no internal bulb shorts.

Help??????

Maintenance / Re: Distributor question
« on: March 01, 2007, 09:26:58 PM »
Hello all,

I have a rebuilt 327 small block, bumped up to 325hp with a 4bl that I am putting in my 67 Camaro.  Any recommendations as to which distributor I should use?  Can/should I use the original one?  My engine was originally a 2bl 210hp.  If I stay with an original style distributor, should I look for one based on the hp rating or engine size?  Example:  use a 1111169 which is for a 396/325 engine.

Thank you all in advance.   ;)

I ended up going with the Pertronix Set-up - Dist & Coil - working great and priced well

General Discussion / Re: Kerosene washing???
« on: February 22, 2007, 07:37:28 PM »
back in the 80's i worked at auto/one as a rust proofer and detailer - we used kerosine all the time to clean and prep vehicle's before doing the paint protection - though i've not used kerosine to wash a car in many years, i would be curious as to the difference between what we used back then (it was clear) and what comes out of pumps now a days (reddish)

67 and 68 wheel wells are not as condusive to over sized tires as 69 and later --different design.
I've got them (15 x 7) on my 68 (from previous owner --a new set of tires and yes, I'm too cheap to not run them!).  They will work, but they will also bump and rub --even with a firm ride (mine does).
Where do they rub?  Obviously, in a full turn of the wheel, but also over bumps running straight.  And this is different from bottoming out. The actual rub on mine is more on the outside of the wheel and wheel well.  It's actually more of a scrape.  So far --after about 3000 miles-- no noticeable damage to tire or wheel well.
Yes, they do look great --if that's your preference.  But they don't look original.
Take a look at this thread and the other thread(s) it refers to:

What size tires are you running?

I had 235/60/15's on the front of mine and they tended to rub a bit on full lock especially with bumps. At 245 width you would want to be down to a 50 profile - imo

where were they rubbing?

I've used - http://www.worryfreetransport.com - twice now, once open (cleveland2detroit) - once enclosed (detroit2miami) , cheap/fast/reliable both times
