General Discussion / Re: 69 ZL1 engine for sale
« on: March 22, 2024, 11:47:16 AM »
John Greenwood bought a lot of ZL-1 engines from Chevy for his Corvette Racing team
He ran L-88 engines in 1971 and ZL-1 engines in 1972 and 1973
In one article , he said he bought all the ZL-1 engines Chevy had available.

Here is a clip from an article by Martyn Schorr  where he saw the ZL-1 engines in Greenwood's shop.

in the old articles of ZL-1 #55  it had rally wheels and white wall tires to go along with the dealer added rally stripes and 427 emblems

Jenkins ran his 67 in A/MP , B/G, and match racing (maybe others) with the fiberglass fenders with no SS emblems , no 396 flags.

I looked through a bunch of photos of the car and didn't see any with a Camaro fender emblem but he did have the SS emblems and 396 flag emblems on the steel fenders

Bill Jenkins 67 didn't have the Camaro fender emblem which may indicate an early car unless they were removed

there are pictures of the 67 with SS and 396 flag emblems which are steel fenders

and there are pictures of the 67 with no SS and no 396 flag emblems which are fiberglass fenders

Jenkins brought his 1966 Chevy II to the Winternationals  Fed 5 ,1967 so he didn't have his Camaro ready for this race.

He red lighted against the Hot Rod Magazine 67 Camaro . it was a big story because the Hot Rod Camaro had a illegal BB engine from Bill Thomas

Is that date known for when the CE code was first stamped on a block? I see some articles say 1967 and others say 1968

1968 427 Yenkos had a tag in the door jam.
also some 68 COPO Yenko Camaros were sold as SS396 not converted to 427

General Discussion / Re: 1969 Z28 Shifter Stick
« on: February 03, 2021, 07:17:39 PM »
R68GTO , you can drill two holes in your stick and use it as a bolt on for an aftermarket Hurst Shifter.

I bought a lot of shifters in the 1980s and 90s just to use the stick on aftermarket Hurst Shifters.

back then a worn out OEM shifter was cheap at the swap meets but the round Hurst stick was popular to convert to a bolt on.

Same thing with the 67-68 Muncie shifter. I used to buy them and convert to a bolt on for aftermarket Hurst Shifters

Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Spoiler availability

Yenko used two local fiberglass companies to make parts for him. One company's main business was fiberglass bath tubs and shower stalls.

Yenko had fiberglass hoods, deck lids, seats, spoilers and other parts made to his design

Yenko, and probably others back in the day, would use their racing buddies to get parts and services as many racers were business owners and raced more as a hobby.

I have a set of prototype fiberglass side pipe covers Yenko had made for 67-69 Camaros. They are too thin and have cracking so didn't go into production.  here is the receipt

an early use of the rear spoiler was the 1966 Yenko Stinger fiberglass rear deck lid

not a normal production car but is recognized by FIA and SCCA as a two seat sports car manufactured by Yenko Sports Car Inc .  Jerry Thompson was the 1967 SCCA D/P Champion in a Stinger
