General Discussion / fire wall on a heater delete car
« on: March 12, 2012, 12:06:24 AM »
I have found what the owner claims is a heater delete 69 SS396. The fire wall looks strange to me as it has a large hole where the normal heater box and blower motor is found. Does this sound correct? I don't understand why there would be a large hole be he claims that is the way they came. Can anyone confirm this?

General Discussion / where to get a 30-30 cam
« on: February 25, 2012, 04:45:49 PM »
I did a search for this and didn't turn up much so I'm hoping someone can answer. Where can I get a 30-30 cam for my 68 Z?  Do any of the aftermarket manufactures (crain, comp, et) make a dead on replacement? Or anyone with NOS cams? I have checked places such as Heartbeat City and others but as of yet have not turned up anything.
Thanks

General Discussion / 69 L78 Question
« on: February 19, 2012, 11:33:39 PM »
From what I see on the homepage information; it looks as though the 1967 & 1968 L78 was only available with a manual trans but in 1969 it was available with a auto trans. I know that in 1970 the L78 was manual only trans, so if I'm reading this all correct can anyone answer why the turbo 400 was only used in 69 on the L78?  A L78 auto must be kind of rare if it was only used in 69. Makes me wonder if a auto trans had a hard time living behind the L78 to use it in 69 but not in 70.

General Discussion / can anyone confirm this?
« on: September 12, 2011, 03:39:08 AM »
First let me say I'm not saying the car is not a 68 Z/28 but.... is there any way to prove this guys numbers that the car is one of one, or one of 17 with headers & cowl plenum or some of the other stuff he claims?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Camaro-1968-CAMARO-REAL-RS-Z28-MO-RARE-COWL-PLENUMN-PROJECT-12-BOLT-PROTECT-O-PLATE-/130574841536?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1e66ddf6c0

IT would be a beautiful car restored but I'm not sure about all his claims.

General Discussion / 68 302 air cleaner
« on: August 10, 2011, 01:09:21 AM »
Is there any difference (quality, fit, appearance) between the 68 302 air cleaner assembly (lid & base) from the re-production ones?

I have mine but the lid needs re-chroming and a lot of clean up and paint on the base. The re-production one I can get for $80.00 and it might be easier than fixing mine if it is of good quality.

Thanks

Originality / 68 Z28 with factory supplied headers ?
« on: January 01, 2010, 09:30:57 PM »
I have a question about 68 Z/28's with the factory headers. As I understand the headers were supplied in the trunk of the car and shipped to the dealer for either the new owner or dealer to install. When the dealer installed the headers did they remove the smog system? Or did the factory supplied headers come with provisions for the smog system?
Thanks

Originality / 68 M21 question
« on: December 29, 2009, 08:39:24 PM »
I was reading the info on the main page about 68 Camaro's and noticed that in 1968 the M21 close ratio trans was only listed as available in the Z28 302, and the SS396, is that correct? Or did I miss something?

General Discussion / what if
« on: July 06, 2009, 05:50:25 AM »
If you ran accross a 69 307 turbo 350 car that appeared to be all stock, but needs restored would you leave it that way? I like original cars but I usually stick to cars that have a more performance drive train in them. Is it worth restoring a 307/350 car back to stock?

General Discussion / What was the top Camaro? SS or Z/28
« on: May 14, 2007, 05:12:19 AM »
This is how it was presented on the Nastyz28 second gen site so I presented it the same way here. At this time on that site most people feel that the SS was the top level of first gen Camaro. My personal opinion is it depended on what you wanted, the Z/28 was the better all round car, while the SS 396 would be the better stop light to stop light car. What started the debate on the second gen site was when the Camaro returns in 2009 what should the top performance model be, Z/28 or SS?

Thanks for your replys.

Decoding/Numbers / VIN to add to the data base
« on: March 17, 2007, 08:54:05 PM »
  Kurt,

Here is a VIN and trim tag to add to the data base. If it is already in there will you let me know? And maybe who listed it? If I can get any history on the car that would be great.
                                    VIN   7L104942

                               Trim Tag         09D          A374
                                                  67-12637  LOS 1679
                                                   765           Y-2
                                                   E      2 LGR    3SL
                                                    5 BY

One thing if you can answer it also is the A374 on the top of the trim tag. That has something to do with the production run right? How is that decoded?
Thanks

Decoding/Numbers / Hidden VIN
« on: March 03, 2007, 05:27:12 AM »
  Hi,

I have a question about hidden VIN's on first generation Camaros. Other then under the heater core box is there anywhere else the VIN is at on the body or frame? What happend is I have bought a 67 RS 4spd car that the previous owner started trying to restore, he removed the VIN tag from the door jam to prime the body and has lost it. I checked the title aginst the partial VIN under the heater box and it matches the ending of the VIN on the title, but I live in a different state then where I bought the car so to get a title in my state I have to have the VIN inspected. If it is somewhere other then under the heater box I might start putting the car back together before I have it inspected, if not I need to get a law enforcement officer over to sign off on an affadaved to say it matches.  Also the sub-frame on the car was changed to a 68 sub-frame because of damage in the past.

Can someone help?

Thanks in advance

Decoding/Numbers / help with 67 trim tag
« on: October 29, 2006, 07:43:51 PM »
  Hi,

I have been looking for another 1st gen car for some time and found one today. The car has been used as a drag car and is not very orgional anymore as it has subframe conectors, auto trans but still has the clutch peddle, small block v8 unknown cid, 10 bolt rear end mulit rear springs, and what looks to be dealer installed A/C (underdash unit) it seems complete but needs a lot of work. I was courious if someone could help me decode the trim tag it is as follows.  thanks
