Restoration / Re: Replacement seat foam
« on: August 27, 2007, 04:26:41 PM »
RatPack: Thkls. for the response. 1969, 01d build, LA car, standard interior. The foam is from Arizona Saguaro Mfg. I talked to them on the phone and was reasured it will fit. I'am in the process of instaliation now. It will be extreamly difficult to get the listing lines far enough forward to be in the correct position when I hog ring them. The foam will have to be compressed to allow the spring assembly to be forward enough. Some times I use zip ties, that way you can leave them loose untill the cover is in the correct place. Then tighten the ties up to draw the listing lines tight and hog ring for extra holding power.
I have done other camaro seats bofore and thtey always had springs in the backs...not sure of build dates or if seats were original to the particular car.

Restoration / Replacement seat foam
« on: August 22, 2007, 04:28:28 PM »
Hello: Has anyone ever used the replacement seat foam sets when recovering bucket seats? I have some and am having a problem as the seat botton foam is a lot thicker than the original foam. I called the company and they assured me it would fit. The foam is approx 3.5 inch thick over the springs. The springs are 5.5 inch high and the seat cover id 5.5 inch deep. All thuis togther means the springs will have to compress 3.5 inch to assemble. I don't think that much *()()* will fit in that size bag. The original foam was approx 2 inch thick. best as I can measure. Also on the foam for the back, it has the springs molded in. My seat backs have springs attached. Are their 2 different seats used in Camaro's? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a friend at the auto parts store who will order rebuilt parts, check for the number and return if incorrect. sometimes he has to order several before he finds the corect pt. no. and date code. Sometimes no luck. If you know some one have them try it out.
Good Luck

Camaro's with Holley carb's (High Performance) used a single fuel line sending unit. Camaro's with Rochester carbs (Med. Performance) used a dual fuel line sending unit (1 line for return). I believe it because of the fuel pump having the return line connection on the Rochester setup. Camaros didn't come with Edelbrock carbs so whichever fuel pump you have and also how your car is set up, does it have 2 fuel lines or 1. Also what you want to do with the car.
Hope this helps:

Mild Modifications / Re: Aftermarket dash gauge bezels for 1969 Camaro?

If you were to buy a repo of the lower plastic piece with texture, then sand the texture off, with say 220 grit wet or dry, you could probaly match the texture close enough. Then if you got some alum. spray paint, you may be able to match good enough to use it untill you can get a correct one. Just a thought.

General Discussion / Re: power steering overheating

You can also gget insulation wrap for this purpose. You could either do the entire header of the area by the steering box. Doing the entire header (both) will keep under hood temp. down and incerase perf. a little. IT is available at speed shops. Just a thought.

I may be to your advantage to secure a shop manual for your car. It willl have blow by blow description of all steps and tools required for any job. Also things to watch out for. I think they are available from most camaro parts pedlers. Some times you can find them at flea markets also. The dealer manuals are better than an aftermarket brand like a Chilton's or such. This way you can check out a job and see how difficult it will be before you start.(by the number of tools required)
Hope this helps

You can also get valve cover spacers from a mail order speed shop. 1/4" thick. with the extra gasket they may be high enough but not to high. Would be a lot less modifications.

Restoration / Re: SPRINGS IN THE BURLAP
« on: August 01, 2007, 12:35:56 PM »
Just got around to doing this my self. My front seats were in bad shape and needed a complete going over. Most of the thin springs were missing as someone had redone the interior years before I got the car. It was velour and was a nice job at one time, not much care was given to originality. What I did was to buy some straight spring wire 13" long .040 dia. and some burlap from McMaster-Carr. They have a very nice web site for all kind of things hardware. The springs are spaced at 1 1/4" so you will need 14 for the 18" long pannel for the bottom of the front bucket seat. I then cut the burlap 15" wide by 20" long and folded it into pleats(like and acordian) 1 1/2" wide along the 20" length. Then stick the springs through the burlap and unfold. You then have a 1" border to fold over and glue with spray trim adhesive or if you have access to a sewing machine you can sew the sides or you could use duck tape. Anyway you get the idea. Good luck..
