Hello: Could someone please post a photo of the windshield washer bottle location on a 1969 standard (non rs). Or the section that shows it in the assembly manual. I can't seem to find it. Thank you in advance.

Restoration / Re: Turbo 400 ID stamp color..a really obscure question
« on: January 02, 2007, 05:22:24 PM »
Steve: Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I had only seen a 67 tag and it was dark green. The trans should have "CX" ink stamped or painted on, on the bell housing on the pass side top. What color is it?
Thks. again.

Restoration / Turbo 400 ID stamp color..a really obscure question
« on: December 20, 2006, 05:02:29 PM »
Hello: There were 3 different Turbo 400's used in the 69 Camaro's, CC, CE and CX to denote upshift points, ect. I was wondering what color was used when these codes were ink stamped on the bell housing. I've only seen a CC trans. which was stamped in yellow. Also were the ID tags, riveted to the side of the trans, different colors? Maybe someone out their knows. Also did all the ID tags have 68 in the date code area of the ID tag as the stamped in date is sequencial from the first calander day in 1968? (Info from Jerry MacNeish book) I would certianly appreciate any input.
Thks.:

General Discussion / Re: sandblasting?
« on: December 05, 2006, 05:29:49 PM »
I had my car done by Quick Strip of Alentown PA (ad in Hemmings). It is an amazing process, the metal looks brand new. It doesn't put metal back where their was rust though, to bad. My car was from Arizona so rust wasn't a problem. My friend brought his 67 Baracuda their also, it looked like that alpine swiss cheese when we got it back. If you do get it done, one thing for sure, get primer on it ASAP because it will rust in a mater of days in humid weather.
Good Luck

Originality / Re: Turbo 400 and column shifter

Column shift was the base. If you didn't order floor shift with consol that's what you got.

Restoration / Re: Correct locaton of proportionong valve on sub frame
« on: October 04, 2006, 12:48:36 PM »
I disasembled this part for rebuild. It contains a valve seat, 2 seals, a poppet valve stem and a spring. This configuration of parts will allow fluid (or air) to pass only when a certain presure (that of the spring) is exceded. Call it what ever you like....  I appreciate all the help and photo's.

Restoration / Correct locaton of proportionong valve on sub frame
« on: October 02, 2006, 01:49:12 AM »
Hello: I was trying to install the proportioning valve back on the sub frame tonight, but it seems the front stainless steel line is to short. The assembly manual shows the valve mounting close to the end of the sub frame. The holes fro mounting are their but the front line won't reach. Has anyone else had this problem? The car is 01D, might that make a difference or are all cars the same? I would appreciate any help. Always something.....

Restoration / Re: Original die cast finish on Turbo 400 trans case
« on: September 27, 2006, 04:17:40 PM »
Steve: Thanks for your reply. The problem with the trans case is as I stated, corosion from being in NY state. The case was all pitted and almost looks like it was sand blasted. I'am going to have to sand it with 220 then 500 then scotch-bright, being carefull not to lose detail, I guess. Then I will use something like phosphoric acid to return the gray as cast finish.
The car is a 69 los-angeles car 01d. It spent most of it's adult life in Arizona. I thought that would be a good thing (no rust to speak of) but I have never seen a car so worn out in my life. Next to nothing was re-usable except sheet metal. No two bolts matched on the entire car... most were missing. All rubber and palstic parts were totally dried out and would break apart in your hands.
The car has a work order no. on the cowl tag of P116, which, I gather, means nothing. It appears to have been a rs-ss car (12 bolt, dual exhaust, front disc and large hole in fire wall for vacuum hoses or cowl ing. wiring) hard to tell for sure.
I found an aluminum 427 (my friend at the engine shop had it, he got it from someone in PA) I got it from him and plan to do the car as one of the one's Fred Gibbs had made. I even got a column shift for the automatic. Some people would call it a clone..I pefer Frankenstine, sense nothing will be done on a celular level. I just collect parts from the grave yards.....
This site has been a great help to me and I'm curious how John Z keeps the bottom of his car so nice being an original non-restored car?
Thks again:
Sam

Restoration / Re: Original die cast finish on Turbo 400 trans case
« on: September 21, 2006, 04:23:52 PM »
Thanks for the info...the problem realy is corosion (I live in upstate New York) which leaves the aluminum case pitted. No amount of cleaning can fix that. I  believe the cases were die cast which would leave a smooth finish, mine looks as if it were sand cast. Does anyone know if new cases are available? Maybe I should try to find a case (or whole trans.) from out west. Any sugestions?
Thks.

Mild Modifications / Re: brake line leak..pulling my hair out!!
« on: September 21, 2006, 04:13:07 PM »
The part your talking about is the proportioning valve (keeps the rear brakes from locking up before the front) and is available as a repo from inline tube. They have a web site. price about $59.00. If you are using stainless brake lines, the stainless is harder than original style lines, and needs to be tightened more to seal. Unless their is a problem with the seat in the valve os the flair in the line.
Good luck...

Originality / Trans lock-out
« on: September 06, 2006, 07:39:12 PM »
Does anyone know the original finish on the trans. lock out brackets and rods? Their was a little glossy black on the rods but not on the brackets. Any help would be appreciated.
