Mild Modifications / lightweight flywheel in a 69Z
« on: June 05, 2009, 07:41:15 PM »
anyone done this? i'm about to switch my muncie to a 2.87 first gear trans, with the original 4.10 rear gears.. so the car will have great 1st gear.

i am thinking of shelving the original flywheel and putting an aluminum lightweight flywheel.

anyone done this or have any suggestions on what to get?
Thanks

Restoration / exhaust systems manufactures
« on: May 01, 2009, 01:19:54 AM »
hi gang,
i am pretty sure that Gardner is the cats meow with these OEM style systems..

but what are the opinions on the systems offered by Ricks, Heartbeat City, D&R etc?

i need a resonator/transverse system for a late 69Z and am pretty sure to be getting a Gardner, but really wanted stainless...

don't even know if I can get it from anyone in stainless, but aside from that, i've not heard good things about the fit on these systems..

can anyone elaborate good or bad news on the systems they installed on their cars?

Thanks

Aaron

Originality / 1969 exhaust question
« on: April 26, 2009, 03:50:44 PM »
hi, got a Sept69 build Z28.

currently have Gardner Chambered on it, but I want to put the correct system on, which I read to be the transverse with resonator system per Jerry's book.

Are there any documented cars built much later than the official change over that did not have resonators?

i'm only asking becasue I want my car to be as correct as possible, but would rather not put the resonators on.

car currently has headers so it isn't a big issue at the moment, but i plan to do some showing this summer and if I take the headers off, i'm gonna put the correct exhaust back on.

Thanks

General Discussion / new videos of my Z with the offroad cam... enjoy
« on: April 24, 2009, 12:55:56 AM »
Here are a couple of videos. The first is is a 15 second in-car video 1st and 2nd gear .. getting on the e-way.
i eased the pedal down at about 3500 rpm, and granny shifted about 6800 rpm
wound 2nd to about 7000 if memory serves. Earlier in the day i did powershifts at about 7800 rpm... but the biasplys didn't fair too well grabbing 2nd. My 22 month old son's comment at the end of the video says it all.

enjoy the clips.

so after 4 cams, 2 sets of headers, 2 different carbs, 3 different exhaust systems, I'm finally happy with the way my Z runs.

should have listened to MacNeish 3 year ago LOL....
special thanks to Jerry though for helping get the carb tuned in... i'm sure it still needs fine tuneing, but i ain't gonna do that without a dyno, or a racetrack.

i did an epic post over at Camaros.net with videos and the history of my cam swaps and what I learned...
there are two posts.. one talking about an UDHarold Cam in my 302, and the other about my journey ending happily with the 140.

at the end of the day, with 11 to 1, wideratio muncie, 4.10 gears, headers... the 140 cam is an absolute dream to drive in a 302.
very nasty street car with more than enough torque to move you from stop light to stop light, and enough vaccuum to stop the car in the parking lot.

Thanks

General Discussion / New cam in the Z... video
« on: April 07, 2009, 06:55:14 PM »
just installed and broke in a new aftermarket cam in my 302.
out with the 30-30 in with a new bumpstick.

i haven't driven it yet becasue it is wide open header, and about 30 degrees here in MIchigan... but assuming weather is nice, it will go to the exhaust shop tomorrow and be on the road by midday..

I can tell you just from the 15 feet I moved it into the driveway that it has significantly more bottom than the 30-30 did...
the idle has alot more pop to it, and it revs like an ON OFF switch LOL

Anyone know who is making these? i've heard that 2 or 3 people were repoping them...

anyone know who id building them?

i owned a set of the 68 "Kustom" headers, but they contacted the powersteering gearbox...

i understand that the 67 version do not, but my car is a 69 and even though these headers weren't a factory option for 69, i believe they were available "over the counter" much like the crossram...

i'd like to get another set , but want to findout if they can be built to accomodate the powersteering box..

thanks

I didn't see a classified section, so I appologize if this is in the wrong spot...

i have a mint Gardner Chambered Exhaust on my car. I bought it from Eric, had the entire system ceramic coated on the inside and outside... and only had the tail pipes polished.. becasue I like the shiny tail pipe look.
the rest of the system is satin and looks just like aluminized steel... the system has been on the car for a year... you can steelwool the ceramic to make it look new again at the joints without ruining the coating.

the ceramic coating cost about 400 bucks to do it complete.. i'll sell the system for 1300 bucks... or you can buy me the correct transverse resonator system from Gardner and when they ship that, i'll put this system in their box and ship it right to you.. if you go to Gardners website.. that is my GreenZ that is in the sound file spot.. I've purchased 2 systems from Eric over the years and he will vouch for me as a seller.

please email me for photos of the system on the car..  I'll probably be pulling it off in the next week so it will be available asap.

Thanks

is there a spot on this forum to post items for sale?
I have a practically new Gardner Chambered system that i'm going to remove and sell becasue my car is a late production 1969 Z28.

system is for a small block car obviously...

i had the entire system ceramic coated (non polished) looks exactly like aluminized steel, but will not rust or discolor..

please email me if interested, and if this is in the wrong spot, i'll be happy to move it..

thanks

Hi,

Many of you are aware that approximately April/May of 1969, all duel exhaust cars switched over to a resonator/transverse exhaust system which included chrome tail pipes.

After months of looking for an appropriate system for these cars.. I contacted Stainless Works about having one made and we are discussing the possibilities of this.

Would anyone be interested in a group buy if they were to be manufactured?

I currently have a Gardner Chambered system on my car and while I wouldn't reccommend anything else, my car really should have the Resonator/transverse system, but with the few times I drive the car a year, I don't want to put a non-stainless system on it.

After looking for months, I contacted StainlessWorks about making this system.

the system would be high quality, non-polished stainless, include resonators, transverse muffler, and chrome (or polished stainless) tips so that the system is correct for these cars but in a stainless material.

I don't know of anyone who manufactures such a system, so if it is out there, please let me know.

Anyone interested? email me at akaleniecki@gmail.com

Thanks

Originality / original exhaust size
« on: May 01, 2008, 11:49:20 AM »
Anyone know for sure the correct exhaust pipe size for Z28 cars?

i currently have a Gardner Chambered system on my car which I believe are 2 inch...... the problem is that the little locator piece (which is the small piece of pipe that holds the composite gasket in place (at the manifold)   that piece brings the ID of the pipe down to 1 3/4 before going into the headpipe... (talk about a restriction for a high winding motor)

i see that many suppliers state that there is a 2.25 system that is for SS350 and 302 Z28 cars.....

did the small block and bigblock cars really have the same diameter exhaust pipes? with just a change at the manifold?

Thanks

General Discussion / Crossram and exhaust manifolds anyone?????
« on: October 16, 2006, 02:02:38 AM »
i am going to put the crossram on my Z, but would really like to keep the manifolds and smog on...

I put the repop Z28 headers on this week and even with the 30-30 and single 4bbl, the car runs a 1000% stronger from 2000 on up to 7000.

it will actually burn the tires off the car from 4000rpm on up....

but not only did I install headers,  I pulled the chambered exhaust off and went with a 2.5 mandrel bent system and crossover tube....

is anyone running the crossram with manifolds with good results?  We see alot of the cars in photos with them on, but i've never actually spoken to anyone who runs the crossram 140cam and manifolds - regardless of exhaust system.

any info from somone who has experince with this setup would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Aaron
