General Discussion / Re: correct 67 early 68 subframe bolts
« on: February 24, 2013, 09:49:37 PM »
As an aside: I did not take notice of this initially, however through out my 48 month non scientific study and recollection (worth what it will purchase) recalls LOS cars having indented head bolts in positions 2 & 3 where as the NOR cars had RBW's like pictured.[/i]

IMHO this has not been covered in enough detail and there are FAR TOO MANY CARS which are NO WHERE CLOSE to being correct.

My LOS '67 has the indented head bolts and all correct washers. The NOR '67 I'm doing has the flat head RBWs as shown, also with correct washers.

You are saying that your direct observations corroborate mine, correct?

I have NEVER seen any 67-68 reproduction set which includes ALL of the pieces (missing the 2 push(speed) nuts for retaining the rad support bushing assemblies and the 4 spring washers for the 4 body positions) much less all of the pieces being correct.

The correct body bolt set up for 67 68 utilizes the spring washer as indicated in the assembly manual (68 Manual P. 51,  UPC 1,  Sheet D1, item#15 PN 3914049 Washer-Spl Spring) and shown in the following photos (silver) PLUS the push or speed nut same sheet item #7.

I have seen hundreds and hundreds of cars which have never had their subframes removed and have never seen a 67-68 which did not have spring washers in positions 2 & 3.

Sorry it's Gen 2 but I didn't get my '69 till 2006!  My first Camaro, '70 Z28, 4-sp., motor stock except Nitrous, 1-off glassed-in back spoiler.  Yes it's posi- just a windy day. Pics from '78, owned it '77-'79, almost died the day I sold it but needed the money for college.
Damn that is one Bad A$$ street machine... a bundle of snakes side pipes and it would be set right!

I was going to say cadillacs, olds, and buick all used fiberoptic light monitoring systems and the parts should be out there...

I saw a black exterior blue interior X77 the other day on ebay... first 69 Z I have ever seen coded as such.
The car was a mess and so incorrect it would have been better if nothing had been done to it, however the Trim tag was definitely real.

get a picture from the inside as well, where the harness comes through the dash mat (firewall pad) and goes towards the fuse box.

The pink and brown wire (to the left side of the photo above the fuse box) are coming through in the correct cowl induction piercing in this photo.

If I am reading you correctly you are saying your harness comes through somewhere near the round punch out in the top left of this photo? Correct?

In some states if you have a shop that repairs autos you can get a NICB under a certain set of circumstances.

His comes out above the fuse box.
It sounds like someone put it through the auto speedo cable hole or the kickdown switch location?

A friend of mine has a 12C Van Nuys Hugger Orange RS/Z that is the earliest verifiable documented cowl hood car known, He has LOADS of docs and the car has never been restored. Let me see where his wiring exits.

In the last photos posted, the 'nut' appears to be 'welded' rather than molded in.   Wouldn't a molded in nut be on the opposite side where all the rubber is located?    What is the purpose of all the rubber on the side of the mount?  the holes (for the large bolts) in that mount appear to be round, rather than oblong.   Correct?
The purpose of all the rubber is additional surface area for bonding so as to keep the mount together, remember these do not interlock.

The metal plate with the rectangular hole is the mid-production change used for the early locking system, used with the existing non-locking mount.
Few of these ever made it back onto a car if the engine came out-
