General Discussion / KING Chevrolet Cincinnati Oh COPO info
« on: July 29, 2015, 04:43:20 AM »
Looking for any information on any copo's that may have come from King Chevrolet.

In particular a Lemans Blue 427 4spd no spoiler rear ant car would have been on the lot by mid June 1969.

If anyone remembers the car on the lot or maybe drag racing in the area I'd like to hear stories.

Decoding/Numbers / Stamps
« on: April 03, 2015, 04:21:25 PM »
Were the alternator and distributor stamped using a fixed position stamp with the aluminum housing "rolling" under the stamp?
OR
was the piece fixed and the stamp rolled into it?

« on: February 08, 2015, 06:38:07 PM »
Jon,
Move this to the appropriate place or delete if it should be else where.

June 68 Hot Rod
Roundy Round Corner by Steve Kelly
Inaugural NASCAR Grand Touring (GT) Division Race Rockingham Speedway

The article states that all three 1967 Cougars entered were built by Bud Moore Engineering and were former SCCA Trans Am cars from the 67 series, The cars were driven by Tiny Lund, Swede Savage, and Bud Moore and finished in the above order 1,2,3.

Article also lists Buck Baker and Frank Sessoms driving 1968 Camaros.

Have all three of the Cougars been located?

Originality / 1969 X66 SS Headlight Bezels?
« on: October 22, 2014, 11:30:21 PM »
Car is Cortez Silver.
The grille had the original Cortez Silver on the surround.
The ones I removed, (believed to be the originals) are Argent without trim.
I have looked at more photos than I care to think about plus through Jerry's book and as best I can tell no one I trust has a published answer to the question... it's not in the Grille Report or in Jerry's book and the photos at best are inconclusive.
I see some which have a argent bezel and some with a black bezel and chrome trim.

I never thought this would be an issue... however which ones would be on a X66?

I was rereading the dec issue of Vintage Motorsport Magazine and read about the loss of braking which led to crashing into the tirewall and guardrail, for which the driver was airlifted to the hospital. (a photographer was also injured & received treatment for a compound fracture)
Driver was released later but was reported as saying "He was glad he was wearing a HANS for the SEVERE impact."

Severe is what I am referring to...

Does anyone know how badly the car was damaged?

Originality / BB Intake manifold studs
« on: June 02, 2014, 07:16:54 PM »
The AIM shows that the automatic equipped L78's had two studs on the drivers side of the engine (part of assembly) for mounting the idle stop solenoid, were these (studs) on all auto BB or only holley equipped auto BB's?

Specifically about the Derby Centers.
I hate to make assumptions however I have been involved with design approvals during my industrial career and I know that artists can be difficult.

I am going to assume that a designer is intimately involved with the first run of parts, especially a trim item such as a derby center cap which was released with the all new 68 vette. I believe a designer would have had the yea nay regarding the aesthetics of the initial run Derby Centers because the photos I have of it (vette) being developed show a number of different centers being considered.

How many would have been manufactured for the first run?
AND

After the initial run who would be in charge of the next buying order if the part was going to be used during production? Designers or someone more interested in the bottom line?

How would the process go?
Would a current sample be provided with a set of drawings and would the sample be used as a casting model (to make new casting dies) to submit for approval?
Or would the part be hand manufactured from drawings like it was originally?

General Discussion / Yellow 69 Camaro Design car
« on: May 22, 2014, 04:44:45 PM »
I know this car has been discussed previously (Yellow 69 Camaro design car with the berlinetta styled wheels and stripes)

The horn button has Z/427 on it and the car has the never released sport shift option, other pictures show a subtle flare at the rear of the front fender and a molded in rear lip spoiler.

Originality / 1969 Engine emblems assembly line different LH and RH?
« on: March 22, 2014, 01:15:37 AM »
The 69 AIM lists RH LH part numbers for 307 emblems.
The 396 car I am painting now has an original RH 396 Emblem which has the casting number of 3938672 RH and the Triangle TC logo inside the back, it also has a different profile than the other emblem on the car which has 3962951 casting number.
The NOS GM ones I see for sale have both 3938671 and 3962951 cast into the back.

Also I recently found a used RH version of the 350 emblem on ebay with the casting number being one off of the number cast in the back of the NOS emblems marketed as being for LH or RH.

So my question is were production line emblems different left to right?
