Restoration / Re: re-stamping a block
« on: June 14, 2006, 02:45:27 PM »
while redoing my 67 rs-ss, i purposely did not redo the engine for fear that the block would have to be decked. i put a timing chain in it along with  nos oil pan and intake gaskets and that was it. i feel that if you have to replace the vin, you should not restamp it. my 05A Z-28 has the vin stamped by the oil filter, but had the block decked in 1979, before original was important. i dont "THINK" it is wrong to just put the engine numbers back as long as it does not include the vin. just my .02cents

Originality / Re: Correct shifter
« on: June 13, 2006, 01:14:00 AM »
the high performance cars, ss-350 and l-78 cars said muncie on the shifter. the base models did not. william is right, they were junk. if you are not worried about originality, leave the hurst. much better unit.

john z, the front lower valance on my 67 rs/ss is painted yelllow and still has the run number written in orange crayon. since i am a computer illiterate, if you send me your email address i will send you a photo or two. the front lower fender extentions are black with an "R" to denote rallye sport.

Restoration / Re: CORRECT UNDER BODY COLOR
« on: June 01, 2006, 03:53:46 AM »
during the current frame off on my 67 rs/ss 350, there is a ton ov factory overspray up under the car. semi gloss black and red oxide primer. i have replicated it and sprayed the overspray while the body was completely disassembled. no springs, frame engine trans etc. it looks awesome. if someone would have told me fifteen years ago that i would be spraying overspray on my beautiful 30% gloss floor, i would have told you you were nuts! these cars have become like corvettes during restoration. i even ran the paint on my control arms. it is a sickness i tell you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the lt-1 came out in 1970 1/2. it would have a three digit engine suffix.
