General Discussion / Pypes pipes
« on: January 01, 2008, 10:42:37 PM »
Has anyone delt with Pypes exhaust?  I bought their 2.5" down pipes in 409 stainless from Ground Up.  I tried to install them today an was VERY diappointed to find that they don't even come close to fitting a stock set of SB manifolds.  The angles at the flanges were way off and if they had fit the flanges they were about 3" below the frame?  I was wondering if they might be marked wrong.  Do BB pipes have the same general shape, left pipe with a 90 degree bend and the right with a 45 degree angle.

General Discussion / Electric choke (+) / Pertronix ignition
« on: January 01, 2008, 12:45:14 AM »
Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was wondering if the coils (+) side would be ok to steal the power from for a feed for the electric choke.  I have a PERTRONIX set-up and no resistor.
Thanks!

I just got the rubber flaps installed in the wheel houses.  Were the staples painted black or left the original staple color?

General Discussion / Firewall Pad
« on: December 14, 2007, 08:52:47 PM »
I'm making an attempt to install the firewall pad in my coupe. Before I break all the push buttons that hold it to the firewall...is there a trick I have yet to try to push them through the holes?  So far I've tried to push them through with my palm, a punch thats fits the inside of the button and even tap them with a hammer.  All they do is fold over or the end point pops open.  The pad comes from Rick's and is RePop for the brand.
Thanks, Joe

Restoration / Aluminum valve covers
« on: November 10, 2007, 12:01:20 PM »
Anyone try to get a dull tired looking set of aluminum valve covers back to life?  My car has the engine dressup.  I'd like to reuse the original covers but everything I've tried so far will polish the aluminum...sort of, but there is no brightness to them and no shine.  What did they look like originally?  Joe

General Discussion / Rick's new catalog
« on: November 04, 2007, 04:35:40 PM »
Anyone checked out the new Rick's catalog?  Ouch :o  on the price increase throughout the catalog.  The one thing that caught my eye was the retainer clip for a powerglide modulator vacuum tube.  From $3.55 to $15.99 :o :o.  I did'nt need that part anyway.

Restoration / Front springs
« on: November 04, 2007, 04:15:57 PM »
I just got my 69 back on 4 wheels.  New stock suspension all around.  I used the correct springs from Ricks for a car without AC and a SB in the front,  with the motor and trans in the car again but no nose yet.  The control arms are still sitting with the rebound rubbers & pressed against the frame snuggly not squashed.  Will these springs relaxe?  How much space should I have between the bumper and the frame...  Is the nose that heavy that it's missing the rest of the weight to compress them?

Mild Modifications / Trans cooler
« on: October 27, 2007, 11:15:38 PM »
I have a 69 with a tweeked 350.  Nothing major but the mods require a 2400 stall converter.  The Converter and trans kit comes from B&M.  They suggest a trans cooler.  Should I be running the cooler through the radiator tank and into the aux cooler or skip the radiator? ???
Thanks for the input... Joe

Anyone know what I need to do to run a single wire internal regulator alternator in my 69?  Did they all have an external regulator? Thanks

General Discussion / Gray sludge in oil pan
« on: October 05, 2007, 11:36:50 PM »
I started to tear down my 350 today for overhaul.  When I got the oil pan off under the black sludge was "battle ship gray" sludge.  What does this indicate?  When I drained the oil from the crank case it was very thin as if it was diluted with gas.  Could this gray sludge be the result of a Rochester 4bbl that is leaking?  The crank and rods look as though they were washed...  Nice and clean!!!
Thanks

C BR 1017G1        I'd appreciate the input.  Thanks

General Discussion / Split rotors
« on: July 11, 2007, 11:27:33 PM »
I tried to buy front rotors for my 69 SS from a brake warehouse in our area.  My car has bolt on to the hub type rotors.  They only list a one piece rotor and I noticed that Ricks only has the one piece rotor too.  Is this all that's available today? and will the one piece rotors work as original to the car? I thought I'd ask if anyone has had this issue and what you did to fix it.
Thanks

Restoration / Coupe weatherstrip channels
« on: April 15, 2007, 04:09:42 PM »
Getting ready to install the weatherstrip channels to the roof.  I'm currious what any of you might have used for the gasket material between the roof and the chrome.  I  can't find the stuff that's correct or just have not looked for the stuff in the right place.  It looked as though it might originally have been a foam type gasket that was sticky on the chrome side with a cellophane type surface that was up against the roof.
I was going to use 1" wide 3M body molding tape but thought I'd ask first.  The stuff has a very agressive stick to it!  One mistake mounting and it could cost a molding trying to get it off.
Thanks, Joe

Originality / package shelf color
« on: April 08, 2007, 02:24:32 PM »
I'm getting close to putting parts on instead of taking them off...finally!  I wanted to check on the color of the package shelf.  My interior color is Midnight Green.  I don't have an old shelf to compare to though... so what was the color?  I'm leaning toward the dark green and not black.
