General Discussion / speedo / fuel needles
« on: November 09, 2008, 12:15:00 PM »
Has anyone ever pulled the needles off the speedo and the fuel gauge?  I've tried but am afraid of breaking something.  How about putting them back on in the right spot so they read correctly?  I want to change the dials and the rusty screws that hold them on.
Thanks Joe

Originality / Rear speaker placement
« on: October 19, 2008, 12:41:28 PM »
I've got an AM/ FM mono radio going into my 69 coupe.  I was wondering, with a mono radio, which side of the rear shelf is the speaker mounted and did it have the same speaker grill as the stereo radios did.
Thanks Joe

Originality / D90 Stripes
« on: October 06, 2008, 10:11:55 PM »
The body shop is installing the paint stencils this week and will also be shooting the white paint.  It just occured to me that there must be at least 100 shades of white.  Would anyone know what color white I should have them use?
Thanks Joe

Could a SS350 be ordered with a  Z87 package?  I looked at the interior...   It looked like my 69 SS350 might have had one.  Befor I put  it in I thought I'd make sure.
Thanks for the input.

Originality / Color delete?
« on: September 28, 2008, 01:39:47 PM »
This is an auction on eBay for a 69 Z28 color delete car 140269235256.  I know you could buy a Corvette with color delete but didn't know a Camaro could be bought that way...or could it?
I could not find anything on the subject more than that Camaros and Corvettes shared colors.  I'm currious to hear for you guys.

Originality / Painted trunk parts
« on: September 14, 2008, 10:06:19 PM »
My car is in the body shop for the final preparations and body alignment before paint.  I was wondering if someone might help with what was painted the body color in the trunk.  I know the inside of the lid and the hinges are body color but I was wondering about the brackets that hold the torsion bars that is welded to the wheel tubs.  Is the inside of the tail panel painted too?
Thanks, Joe

General Discussion / Restoration parts
« on: September 08, 2008, 09:30:15 PM »
I thought I would let you all know about a GM restoration house I found today that just blew me away!!!!  I'm at the paint stage with my 69 SS 350.  We're going to paint the stripes on the car and so with that decided I called Rick's to order the stencil set...they didn't have any and they could not say when the kit would be in.  I told the body man and he said call this guy and ask for Earl.  I did and then took a drive to his place. WOW!!!!!!! :o

The guy owns "Competitive Automotive Inc.".  The place is located in Warwick, RI just off of RT95.  The address is 2095 West Shore Road (Rt.117) Warwick, RI 02886.  The phone # is 401-739-6262 and he has a fax #, 401-739-1497.  Strange hours but they work 12 to 7PM and be patient with phone calls one guy does it all.   He has no web site and no catalog.  He told me to use the other guys catalogs and then call him. And don't be afraid to ask if you don't see it in a catalog because he has that and more!!!

This guy has any and everything that you could possibly imagine.  All the clips for all the chrome and anything else that uses a clip.  All the wire harness clips and ties.  Bolts, interior parts, sheetmetal he has used stuff, transmissions, chrome I could go on and on you get the idea!

If you can drive there and you need something that is large they don't have, as long as it goes in with his normal stock order he won't charge shipping if you can pick it up at his place.  Most everything you would want is in stock and the price is less.  I bought the strip stencil kit for $95.00  with no shipping, a can of interior paint for $12.00.

A great place for your Camaro and any other GM classic.  By the way all the stuff he sells is the same stuff Rick's and the others sell.

I hope this is of help!

Restoration / interior dash paint code
« on: August 09, 2008, 12:36:16 AM »
My car is finally going to the body shop for paint ;D.  It's Fathom Green with a dark green interior.  My question is, where do I find the paint code for the interior paint color.  The body shop suggested dulling the exterior color but I want the right color.  Can anyone help?
Thanks Joe

Originality / Steering column color
« on: March 15, 2008, 11:38:48 PM »
I'm getting ready to work on the paint color on the interior of the car.  It has a dark green interior.  The question I have,  is the column supposed to be green or black?  It looks like it was painted or swaped at one point.  There is green paint pealing with black paint pealing as well .

I was currious to know if a 350 crank would work in a 283 block and what mods would need to be done if it would work.
Thanks

Someone tried an overhaul on this trans at one point and hammered out he 4 bosses on the low reverse piston retainer.  Who knows why!? Anyone have some spare turbo 350 parts?  I need a low /reverse piston spring retainer ring.  It's the retainer ring that holds the springs in against the piston and is held in place with a snap ring. cant find one anywhere.

General Discussion / Drive shaft leaks
« on: January 12, 2008, 08:46:04 PM »
I'm getting closer by the day to firing the engine for the first time.  Today I filled the transmission with ATF.  As I was going about my business after filling it I noticed ATF all over the floor :o  After investigating the leak it turns out that the center of the transmission yoke has what looks to be a machined tapered hole. That's the source of the leak.  Was this hole used for the centering of the yoke for machineing and then pluged with some kind of GM goo after?

My thought would be to use some ATV and a small screw and flat washer to plug it.

Anyone had this problem ?  How did you fix it...

Jerry or John I know you have the fix.

Thanks Joe
