Thanks for the pic Kurt! Do you have any other pics of it? Were there any differences [hole piercings etc.] between late 69 Camaro and 70 Nova?
Or more  specifically, is there anything to identify this frame from a 70 Nova frame?

The Subframe with the elongated hole on the drivers side is for a late build '69 Camaro or '70 Nova subframe.

Warren, thanks for your post, it has prompted my memory. That's exactly what my research from years ago had led me to, though I didn't know about 'late' 69 Camaro.
I thought the elongated hole was a good indicator of it belonging to 70 Nova only.

Yes, the 4 lights missing off the chain would only have a marginal effect on the dimming [but noticeable] of the dash lights.
I think there are different part numbers for the headlight switches which have different rheostat resistances which allows for different options a car may have vs. number of lights.
I had also noticed that the rear light is on a separate circuit and I can't remember for certain, but it may be connected to the door switches so it only comes on with the interior light.
And yes again, we are still missing some detail.
I'm going to have a look through some other books I have, I'm sure I have seen circuits somewhere in something I have???
Back soon - bedtime for me [now 4:00am] This place is too much fun!!!!  :D

General Discussion / Re: UO radiator tag
« on: May 11, 2016, 07:35:09 PM »
Another update.
I originally contacted HBC via their own website contact form, but after a couple of days I hadn't had a reply. So then I tried via their ebay page for the UO tag and had a reply back within an hour or two of sending it, but....that reply [as above post] was in fact the reply to my initial query via their website form.
I have just now received another reply to the same query sent from their ebay page and it is quite different to the first reply.
They say: "The tags were reproduced from the original tags I had taken off of cars or radiators They were made right here in Michigan verbatim to the originals"

So....seems we have a stand-off!!  :o

What to make of all this???

AIM UPC U17 A2
That seems to only show where various bits are located physically - no wiring diag. ?

This link is for 68 rs, but may give you some ideas.
http://www.usmuscle.com.au/Forum/showthread.php?t=3580

No lights usually points to a bad earth problem, though you would probably have gauge issues as well, so more likely the + volts for the console lights has gone missing somewhere, perhaps where the console wiring connects into the dash harness.
In any event, the console lights should connect to the dash lights which get their + volts from the headlight switch which then feeds via the dimmer rheostat [rotation of headlight switch]
Do the dash lights work ok and do they brighten/dim up and down when you rotate the headlight switch?
Bear in mind that because your missing a number of lights off the chain [= less loading on the dimmer] the dash lights may not dim as much as they ought to.

General Discussion / O R and S radiator tag letters
« on: May 11, 2016, 05:56:20 PM »
I see that these extra letters are still something of a mystery.
Just one question, what has been the observed usage of these letters? e.g. which letter is most often seen, or is it an even split - no bias in usage?

I got a reply from HBC after informing them of the research at CRG regarding the part number on the 68 UO tag.
Their reply was "Thank you for letting us know that."
So hold tight, maybe we'll see correct [at least in numbers] repro tags for 68 BB A/T soon!!  :)

Thanks Bob/Mike for the input,
So it seems that many years later [TC thread is 2012], HBC are still not making them correctly for 68 BB A/T.
3017838 is for a 69 ZE tag.

Rob,

Yes. That is correct. I've been on the hunt for a correct tag since my posting on TC back in 2012 and still haven't found anyone that makes a correct reproduction.

Bob
Unbelievable!! Seems HBC have broken the golden rule of 'measure twice - cut once'
I have sent a mail to HBC asking about this anomaly, awaiting an answer.

Hi Crew,
I can't make this UO tag from HBC add up to anything on CRG's cooling system page, or have I missed something?  ???

Decided to pull the top of the other 7028218 EH carb to check numbers and the air horn casting is exactly the same as the one above - 7032741 with the same [RH front corner] stamped number 35810.
The body's also have identical casting numbers 7035530. Not that same casting numbers necessarily mean much anyway, as two identical castings may have different drillings or hole sizes for completely different applications, though in this case it may carry some meaning as both bodys are also stamped with the same application number and code.
The date codes stamped into the throttle plates are quite close as well - 3397 for the one above and 2947 for this one.
Of course, the date stamps would only have any meaning if you can be sure that the throttle plate is original to the body and/or air horn.

The fact finding continues. If any one wants me to post or pm back a pic of any other aspect of the carbs I have, let me know, glad to help with anything.
Cheers

Another interesting 7028218 quady.
Have a look at this carb advertised here http://mail.2040-parts.com/7028218-dh-quadrajet-68-camaro-chevelle-el-camino-396-w-350hp-auto-date-e8-i1135522/
It's a 7028218 but also has E8 which is presumably a date code. [may 68] and [a rather faint stamp] but according to the seller, is app code DH???
Though not a clear pic of the LHS, it does appear to be a Carter Carb which would explain the E8 date code. But an app code of DH on a 7028218 is something of a mystery.

Also, I'm not entirely convinced that the airhorn, body and throttle plate are all originally from the same carby.
Note also that there is only a hole in the plate attached to the air valve shaft for the choke pulloff linkage, instead of the usual long slot.

Unfortunately, there's no pic that shows wether or not it has the fuel pullover ports. I have written to the seller asking if they can send me [or upload] a pic of the secondary barrels in the air horn, shot from the rear and looking forward with the air valves held open a bit - Still waiting for a reply.
Though if it is a 'bitsa' carby, then the presence or absence of pullover ports may not mean much anyway.

Hi Mike and all, have a look at this carb that's on ebay at the moment http://www.ebay.com/itm/68-CHEVELLE-CAMARO-ELCAMINO-396-350HP-CORVETTE-427-ROCHESTER-QUADRAJET-7028218-/371279423163
There's no time clock on the auction, so hopefully it hangs around for a long time or until someone buys it, maybe I will so we can put it under the microscope!!  :D
It's clearly a 7028218 EH and you can clearly see it has the secondary pull over ports just above the air valves, but has a very elaborate choke pull off assembly  ??? [different emissions carb - maybe a corvette thing??] or maybe previous owner fitted that as a replacement [perhaps it was all he/she/mechanic had or could readily get at the time?? not quite correct but it'll do - better than nothing or non-working orig.]

Edit: Heck, just noticed the name with ph to call for questions - Kurt - not our Kurt surely - but????

Hi gwp4 and your first post I see, so an extra big welcome for you. Hope you enjoy your time here.  :)
Do you have a copy of the 68 AIM [assembly instruction manual]? It's downloadable from this site [somewhere] It alone has a wealth of information on how a 68 was put together on the assembly line including part numbers for many items.
But be warned, once you start reading it you will be transported to a 'Camaro' universe where you will not be able to stop reading it!!  :D

What I can see so far on page UPC63 A2 of the AIM is a drawing of the front speaker and how it is assembled into the dash and it quotes part number 7298001
It also shows a bracket attached to the speaker magnet which bolts to another bracket on the body to mount the speaker.

There are other radio gurus on this site, so hopefully they can chime in with more details.
I'd have to double check, but I believe the speaker was 10 ohm and of only modest power [watts] - the radios are only single ended output [1 power transistor] so only capable of a few watts power.
Must have a look under my dash, the orig speaker may still be there. My car had been fitted with a pair of 6 x 9's in the rear when I bought it [many moons ago now]

There is a warning label on the radio case, to not turn the radio on without a speaker attached.
In any event, I would get a tech to look over the/any radio if only for bad electro capacitors. The ones I have looked at have had power filter caps that were in a very sorry state!
The radio may still work, but it will be prone to ignition and other interference noise and distortion of the audio.

The AM radio part number/model number is 7297901. Can post up pics if you need - let me know.

Also, we demand pics of your car! We don't care what state it's in, we just wanna see  :D
Cheers, Rob

Wow, even looking at other Zs would have helped!
Absolutely! Google images is your friend, which would have at least alerted to the need to research more!
And 69 Zee, 'on the same car'  :o please tell me your joking!! That's just unforgivable!! Sounds like someone who would still get it wrong no matter how many times they measured!! [measure twice, cut once]  ::)
