Originality / Radiator fan paint - type and finish
« on: July 27, 2010, 04:08:22 PM »
Sorry if this has been answered somewhere already, but can anyone tell me the type of paint [enamel?] that was used on the radiator fan.
Also, was the finish flat or satin?

Maintenance / 396 L34 water pump rebuild
« on: July 27, 2010, 03:26:45 PM »
Hi crew,
Just in the process of rebuilding my water pump and just have a couple of q's for now.
Is the bearing pictured below the right one for '68 L34 - 3/4' shaft with 5/8' pilot?
Given the length of the front 3/4" section, it would seem that the fan hub presses nearly all the way on?
Does anyone know the hub's installed height dimension, from pump leg face to hub face?

Hi crew,
Given that my car is an XCO to Aust., I presume it would have automatically qualified for rpo KD1?
If that is so, then it would seem that they also leave the fan pulley [3900434] as-is and not change it to 3905995?
Mine still has the 3900434 pulley on it.
TIA

General Discussion / Thanks to CRG team and members
« on: July 11, 2010, 03:34:53 PM »
Just wanted to say 'thanks' to the CRG team and all the members that support it with their informative input.
I'd feel lost, barefoot and homeless without it!!  :)

Originality / Big block ignition lead lengths
« on: July 11, 2010, 03:24:54 PM »
Hi crew, does anyone know what lengths the factory ignition leads are for bb?
A couple of pics showing correct routing would be great too, if anyone can help.

TIA  :)

Originality / 68 SS temp sensor
« on: June 22, 2009, 09:53:24 AM »
Hi Crew, been a while since my last visit. Multiple issues keep dragging me away from the only issue that really matters - my Camaro!!  :)
What's the correct p/n for the temp sensor for '68 396 with console guages. My parts book is not totally clear on this.
Also, is the connector a straight push-on round bullet style, or a clip that pushes on at right angles to a flange at the end of the sensor pin?
Cheers.

General Discussion / 'Wally' cuts lead off a good power antenna
« on: September 19, 2008, 05:20:54 PM »
Recently picked up a hard-to-find power antenna [not camaro] of ebay, listed as 'excellent working order', only to discover that the antenna lead had been freshly chopped off 4" from the base! [seller was too slack to pull the lead out] >:(
Seller's attitude was 'so what..just solder another one on'  ::)

Maintenance / Choke pull off bleed down time
« on: January 19, 2008, 02:25:18 AM »
Hi all, the genuine choke pull off for a 4MV quadrajet [the plastic body type of pull off] has a small brass plug with a fine hole in it in the air pipe connection, to control the bleed down time and hence the opening rate of the secondary air valves.
The bleed time when operated by hand is about 3 secs from fully depressed to fully extended.
The fuelmiser part does not have any bleed down restrictor and the arm pops out in about 1/2 a sec, causing severe engine bog.
Would be interested to hear other ppls thoughts on this issue.

General Discussion / Rochester q-jet bore diameter v cfm
« on: November 30, 2007, 11:37:54 AM »
Just need to recheck myself on this.
800 cfm had 2.25" secondary bores?
What bore diameter did the 750 cfm have?
Were all primaries the same diameter @ 1.375" [1 3/8"] ?

Restoration / Hood ornament louver pins
« on: February 19, 2007, 10:34:45 AM »
Has anyone had any success at re-attaching broken pins to the hood louvers?
Is this at all possible with or without damage to the chrome on the other side?
TIA

General Discussion / Madrid grain dash pad black vinyl
« on: February 10, 2007, 06:02:52 PM »
Hi all, does anyone know of were I might be able to source some of the Madrid vinyl to recover a couple of dash pads using the thermo-vac process?
I'm in Australia and even though there's a couple of companies here www.consoles.com and www.dashboardcentre.com.au that can re-skin dashes, neither can get the Madrid grain material anymore.
My only other option is to send them to 'Just Dashes', but I'm looking at a huge shipping cost to do that.
TIA

Decoding/Numbers / Delco booster date decode
« on: February 10, 2007, 05:32:32 PM »
Hi crew, the power brake booster in my 12C built 68 has 326 stamped into the front of the top lock tab, and 9078 stamped into the rear of the same tab.
Is the 326 a julian date - 326th day of the year? If so, how is the year determined?
Do the numbers look right for my car build date?
TIA

Site Comments/Discussion / Typo in crg reports - cooling
« on: January 29, 2007, 02:45:36 PM »
I think there's a typo in the crg report on 67 - 69 cooling, the quoted length of the 67-68 bb spacer is shown as 1 9/32", should be 1 29/32" ?
