Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: z28 front backing plate and steering bracket bolt finish

Gary: The spindles on my Z/28 were pink. I have also seen ping daubs on the center link on Z/28's. Other cars I see red or white on the spindles. The red has an orange tint, but still more red than orange. John is correct (as usual) ; the bolts are 'dark' and appear to have been phosphated. I was thinking that they weren't painted (which they weren't). I had to go peek at my photos, and I also see that I was wrong about the 'orange and blue' paint splashes; what I was recalling as 'orange' actually appears to be pinkish? see photos attached.

So... at some point in the model year, did the 3962748 (green stripe) make it to the assymbly line?
Guys with late cars, anyone have original mounts?
I have an old 3962748 and comparing it to the Anchor 2283, looks like Anchor may have been the supplier. They are pretty darn close.

Camaro Research Group Discussion / Restoration / Re: Where to send starter for rebuild.

You can rebuild it. It is very easy. Is the starter "dragging" badly? If not, then you can disassemble and replace brushes and bushings.
The chassis overhaul manual only has 6 pages on it. I can scan and email to you if you wish.
Most of it you won't need anyway. 99% of the time, you need to replace the front bushing, lube the rear bushing (they rarely wear out), replace the brushes, and clean the armature. You DON'T need to turn down the armature most of the time. I am talking like one out of a thousand.
BTW, as I stated on another site, I really like silver and black. You need to post some more pics of that car.

Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: Size of original Battery tray mount and clamp bolts???

Not sure if I have this right, but I have four bolts lableled batt tray.
Two are 5/16 by about 1/2 inch long with large 1.125 inch captured washers. I THINK those are for the bottom. Two are 5/16 by about 3/4 inch long, pointed, with smaller 3/4 inch captured washers. looks to be the same as the headlight bucket bolts.
Not sure about the clamp bolt. I know it is 5/16 and know it has a captured washer, but not sure of the length.

Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: 69 L48 - 2 or 4 bolt mains

Kurt: I don't have a lot of experience, but have dismantled maybe 10 to 20 of the 69 L48's, mostly from full size cars. Some 350's from pick ups. I wish I had taken notes, pics etc. Most were four bolts. I know I was always a bit surprised to see 2 bolts. Going from memory only (dangerous) it seems like most, if not all the Flint cast and assembled motors were 4 bolt. Also, after the change to the 3970010 block, I don't remember EVER seeing a 2 bolt block, at least not on a 69. Remember one full size car with a first week of Jan (69) engine that was four bolt, but did not note if it was T or V coded. Only reason that one sticks in my head is that it had one 041 head and one 186 head, and all indications were they were both original to the car.
Wish I could be more help.

Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: Leaf Spring code?

Thanks Mike.
There were lots of part had numbers, etc. but still were coded with a swab of paint. Distributors, spindles, even my original fuel line had dark green paint on it. I believe it was for easy id on the line.
Anyway, page 57 of the 1969 model AIM shows the location for the "color code stripe". Seems like they would have figured out is was non existent after two years.

Sorry Daniel, but it is an old one that came on a head I purchased years ago. Still works. I have no idea if they are still available. Mike: Great pics.
And yes, I have a correct sending unit. I need the temp connector for the push on pin.
Lynn Where did you find a sending unit? Can you get another?
