While I agree the ebay seller "may not keep track of who he sold it to", he may keep track.  Also, some of the auctions show the name of the buyer.  Even if the auction doesn't show the buyer's name, many times you can figure out who bought it by looking at feedback.  So, that would be some possible leads, which beats the heck out of no leads at all.  If I was looking for a long lost part, I would be thrilled to have an ebay lead, even if it were a few years old.

Just my 02 cents.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: X11 z/28 on ebay??

"From what we understand 3 of these cars were produced because of Chevrolet dealers Taking orders so late. By the time General Motors received these orders they had to utilize the x-11 body to get the cars produced. "

Pure fiction.  There are plenty of X33 cars produced well after this 08D car.  Nothing indicates it is a Z/28 other than the stripes and emblems.  Hmmm, wonder if any of those ever got put on a plain jane car?   Looking at that pile, I am amazed that: 1.  He got a bid over $46k, and 2.  He didn't take it!!!!

Originality / Re: 1969 VIN label on drivers door

The first car to get the sticker was somewhere between VIN 671122 and 671208, both of which are 08A cars.

If you just need the seal replaced, find and old mechanic that has been a GM dealership for a few decades.  I replaced a bunch of those ceramic seals.  If you have the tools it is not difficult and has about a 95% success rate.
