Decoding/Numbers / VIN 124377N166839 Original ??? 67 SS/RS Camaro 350

I own a 1967 Camaro 350 RS/SS. I bought it a few years ago and was wondering if it may be in the data base. I traced the car back to CA by doing an emissions check. I live in IL and bought it from a local dealer of muscle cars. The emissions check was done on 5/3/97 at an Econo Lube N’ Tune, La Puente CA. I love the car and it is fun to drive, a lot of nice complements. It has a date code of 01A, 4 speed code of 2L, 350 code of 4P, 3L for Rally Sport, 760Z, NOR 66261  and it is Marina Blue car.

 Anyone have history on this?

Thanks for everyone’s help. I guess who ever owned this car did not want a big heavy shoulder belt (male) end flapping around above their head should they have the window open and not be buckled up. At least they were consistent for both driver and passenger, they are all 1969 belts.

Decoding/Numbers / 1967 Camaro seat belt decoding help

A few I could read and the others were faded but I think they follow the same pattern. Here they are:

31A69 - Drivers lap belt w/ retractable holder floor (female)
20A69 - Drivers shoulder harness (female), it is held by 2 u shaped clips above the drivers window (roof panel).

Both the above drivers lap belt and shoulder harness require 2 individual male connectors. So to buckle up I have a total of 4 straps . I'm not sure if a 67 came with this setup?

19A69 - Rear passengers lap belt

Thanks for any help.

Yes, I referenced this from the book “Original Camaro 1967-1969” by Jason Scott". It shows a picture of how the trim tag (cowl tag should look). Located upper firewall next to the windshield wiper motor. I would be careful since a tag can be easily made. The book states there were only 4,889 L78 375hp 396ci made. There is a Camaro Pace Car club that I occasionally run across, I’m sure they could help.

I'm looking at my Trim Tag identification reference for 1969 and I see that an X22 code (Style Trim w/SS-396) should be referenced. There is an * there that states “Norwood Late Style Only, VIN 544001 to end of production.

Maybe some can help verify this.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 1967 engine block casting date L206 - Dec or Nov?

That was an outstanding report! I was very impressed. I'll contact the seller on Monday to see what the pad stamping is. Hopefully it was never restamped.  I'll let you know. Thanks

If you retore it, make sure to take alot of pictures of the process. The original paperwork is a big plus and does add value should you ever have to sell your car.

Karl, everyone is correct. There are fake cowl tags, paperwork, engine blocks restamped. The best you can do is become a very educated buyer. Fortunately most people do not build clones 100% correct and there are flaws. There are professionals out there you can hire who know what to look for. Dan

JohnZ - You are correct on the cowl tag (trim tag) and "L" month. The date is 01A and the body build number is (1) 66261. The starting production number for1967 per my reference book was (1) 65658. The CRG Research Report was what I was basing my concerns on. It is based on the 1969 1st Generation Assembly Process (Norwood). They said the 1969 assembly process could also be applied to the 1967-8 years?

The Fischer Body plant and the Chevrolet assembly division were next to each other with a common wall opening. They mention that it took 2 days (4 shifts) to go through the Fischer Body process and another 1 1/2 day (3 shifts) for the assembly process. The report says they were producing 57 cars per hour or 912 per day.

That was 1969, 1967 might be a different story so I tend to think your right. I can't believe the production would be as efficient for a first year production car. I appreciate you input. I found the engine build time frame to be very interesting. I still am not sure on this engine purchase?

Originality / Re: Please see picture of my 327 - question on originality
« on: February 11, 2006, 06:13:44 PM »
the 327 came witha single-snorkel, closed element air cleaner. the steel valve covers were painted orange. the 350ci used chrome valve covers.  the carb was 2 barrel rochester.

Decoding/Numbers / 1967 engine block casting date L206 - Dec or Nov?

I have a chance to purchase this engine for my 1967 Camaro. The seller says this is a Dec 20, 1966 date while my Corvette friend says it's Nov 20,1966? My build week on the car is 1st week Jan 1967. If this is 12/20/67, would this be to close to the build week. I've been told a casting date of 30-60 days before build week is correct?
