General Discussion / Re: my 69 Z being restored

The man ordered the car. He should know what color he ordered. I have know idea why anyone would doubt him. Every picture I've seen has a lavender hue to it. I'm with ya Clem.

Not much of a change but I got lucky and found 3 tags that start with my initials  TW. I'm having the one below
changed from an 8 to a 3.

Before you go to all the trouble changing it you better check with DMV and make sure you can modify the tag and that the number isn't already registered

I know in Ohio a YOM plate has to be original. Also you first buy historical tags the tranfer to YOM. They are a one time fee. Also with YOM you only need one plate.

You guys paying all these fees and taxes need to start a Montana LLC. Saves you thousands in sales tax when you buy a car plus since its registered in Montana and owned by the LLC you won't have to pay the property tax on it.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69 Z/RS numbers

I'm impressed about this clever wording....
The Term “Numbers Matching” used in our descriptions refers to an engine that has an: engine block casting number and date, engine assembly date and suffix code, and engine VIN/serial number that are present in a manner that is consistent with build sequence of the described vehicle.

IMO, today's buyers may not be as demanding in having an original stamped part so a restamped one will be acceptable even if they are told out right. After all, if you are driving it around, an original or restamped doesn't matter......each will give you just as much fun.
Whether we like it or not, those restamps are here to stay even if it is kept a secret as to what to watch out for.

Mike

Must be Hendrick's way around selling fake cars since he got caught faking the Olympic Gold one.

Bill this guy finally lowered his price on this one. I think he was at $1495.00. He still wants way to much for it though. I offered him $1000.00 for it when I had the Z.

They mention 3 times that it is an L78 car. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

The way I read it they say its a documented L78. Only that it now has L89 heads. . Documented as one of only 4,575 built with the L78 396/375 HP

I dont  see it being a fair deal with all the things needing corrected. If so it would have sold by now. Its been on there for months.

The sad part about all this is that some day nobody will know the difference. Once our generation is gone who will be around to tell whether a car is real or not.

Yep.......these dealers are the worst. I'd say they are the ones responsible for 90% of the fake Z's.
