When is the last time anybody has seen this?  It's so cool I don't think i can stand to use it.  No response necessary, I just think it's cool.  Dave

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Correct Carb #'s for '68 396/350 4sp?
« on: March 12, 2006, 07:33:38 PM »
According to Colvin, 7028217 would be the correct carb.  I think the only criteria for A.I.R. was auto or manual transmission.  Probably some exception for California, but I'm not sure.  Carb selection does not seem to be affected in this instance.  Dave

Didn't the dash area get painted at Fisher before going to the Chevrolet side for VIN assignment?

Z87 would add woodgrain trim to radio and rt side dash panel, a rt side dash panel grab strap, pedal bright trim, glove compt. light, trunk mat, hood insulation, and I'm not sure but I think the woodgrain steering wheel.  I think there are a couple of other things I'm not remembering.  I have the woodgrain dash and radio stuff along with the grab strap in the attic in a box.  Haven't decided if I like it yet or not.  Dave

My 69 plate is black as is the dash.  But...the back of the rivets are still shiny.  Leads me to believe the plate was painted black before installlation to the dash.  Checked my Nova also, it is the same way.  Dave

Originality / Harmonic Balancer
« on: March 11, 2006, 07:40:23 PM »
Do you have a breakdown of correct small block harmonic balancers?  Specifically for me 210hp 327 in 1969.  There are about 20 of them lying around here and I don't know which is which.  Thanks.  Dave

Could you get a Z-28 with a flat hood in 1969?  Dave

If I'm not mistaken, a four leaf spring was standard issue on the Z-28 only.  JohnZ, tell us the answer.  If so, you'd better do a title search and start loooking for some original pieces or verifying with prior owners.  Dave

Restoration / A/C bracket spacers
« on: March 05, 2006, 07:05:37 PM »
Any body out there know where i can get the mount spacers to the A/C compressor?  One spacer goes to the exhaust manifold bracket and the other at the back of the compressor from intake bracket.  I have everything else.  One of the luxuries of buying a car someone else took apart....

Maintenance / Re: Rebuilt motor tuneup
« on: March 04, 2006, 10:02:24 PM »
This camshaft will prefer a lot more initial timing.  The only problem you'll have is in the distributor.  Most out of the box distributors have 20-24 degrees of mechanical advance.  Add it up--too much timing at higher RPM which will lead to severe pre-ignition and engine damage.  Your Unilite is VERY adjustable, but will require the tuning kit to do it right.  Contact Mallory or simply read the instructions for the Distributor if you have them.  I recommend no more than about 36 degrees of total timing for safety sake.  Good fuel and fine tuning can make a big difference from there.  Dave

General Discussion / Re: Rear end gear
« on: March 04, 2006, 09:54:05 PM »
If the rearend is original, have you considered a different torque converter?  You never have to admit it and it can definitely help low speed acceleration.  Don't get carried away, a 2000 RPM converter will be inexpensive and really help.  Probably less work than going through the rearend anyway.  If you are going to a higher speed converter, DO NOT forget that there will be additional heat load at the transmission, especially at low vehicle speeds--adding an aftermarket trans cooler is always a benefit for transmission durability and lifespan.  Dave

Originality / Rally Wheels
« on: February 27, 2006, 03:27:52 AM »
Were rally wheels a part of any option group besides the Z28?  Z21 was simply a few moldings and the lower blackout on the 69, is this correct?  Dave
