2777  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: z-28 hood stripes on: June 24, 2007, 11:22:12 PM
A few years back, I did email back and forth with a guy who said he was the original owner of a burgundy Z with red stripes. I asked for any early pics but never heard back from him on that topic.

BTW, 69 SS couldn't have special order stripe colors because part of the stripe was a decal.....
2778  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Re: 1969 Early LA VIN# on: June 24, 2007, 11:08:32 PM
Production was a ramp-up, with the first units slowly progressing down the line to prove-out the tooling and station processes.
Do you have a picture of the trim tag or the data off of it? Any info on the original configuration of the car?

Thanks!
Kurt

2780  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: z-28 hood stripes on: June 20, 2007, 10:09:08 PM
I've heard of burgundy Z's with red stripes, but I've not seen proof.

I have seen an original paint burgundy Z with white stripes, still all original. That's proof. Smiley

It's possible that special Z stripe colors could have been ordered. Not possible on an SS though.

A good question for Jim M or JohnZ.
2781  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Restoration / Re: Rear Stripes - again on: June 20, 2007, 01:01:46 AM
I've seen several original paint early LOS 69 Z's. None were painted like this.

The dealer could install the spoiler as he saw fit. Move (or not) the emblem, braze or tape the holes, etc....

What color is the wiper linkage?

And you've had the car longer than you remember, 33 years not 20. Smiley
2782  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: date for 67 396 on: June 20, 2007, 12:03:39 AM
It's a fake car. Pass.
The 396 wasn't released until calendar year 67.
2783  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: No partial VIN on blocks on: June 19, 2007, 11:56:23 PM
what is your opinion on this stamp.no partial vin on block but stamped on powerglide.
july 68 327
Surprised there's no VIN.
But at first glance, I'd say the stamp is probably OK. No offense intended at all, but who would restamp a 210 hp motor....
2784  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: seat belt colors in '69 on: June 15, 2007, 10:27:01 PM
It's not quite that simple. My seatbelt report is way on the back burner, but here's the 69 colors:

                    Trim Code          Seat Belt Color
Color       Standard   Deluxe   Standard   Deluxe

Black           711   712, 713    Black   Black
Blue            715   716           Blue   Blue
Red             718   719           Black   Red
Med Green   721   722           Lt Green   Light Green
Dark Green   723   725           Black   Green
Parchment    727   729           Black   Black
Orange/Yellow HT  720, 714    Black   Black
2785  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: 69 Camaro X codes, did they make SS's without them in june? on: June 14, 2007, 11:19:29 PM
There is no axle code that's specific to any engine (except COPO's).
If you post what you have (vin, tag, axle, and trans), we can probably help.
http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml will help you.
2786  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: 68 SS hood ornaments on: June 13, 2007, 08:45:26 PM
We don't have a lot of data, but so far it still points to 68 BB's being the velocity stack style and SS350's changing to the finned style about the first of the year.

More data will help, especially from both plants.
Specifically looking for data from SS cars with original hood ornaments:
- early (pre-January) SS396 cars
- mid year (~Nov thru March) SS350 cars
The condition of the car / hood doesn't matter, just as long as the hood ornaments are original.

Thanks!

2787  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: 68 SS ? on: June 13, 2007, 02:12:35 PM
Could be an SS or a L30/M20.
2788  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Re: Interior and exterior color combinations on: June 13, 2007, 02:08:34 PM
All non-Z stripes (SS/D90 and DX1) were red, black, and white.
Z stripes were only black and white, except for pacers & Z10's which of course were orange.

For 69, it can be complicated. See http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#ExteriorColors and the associated footnotes.
2789  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: z-28 hood stripes on: June 12, 2007, 10:36:43 PM
I've never seen any Z with anything other than white or black stripes.

If you look at the burgundy color info, the red stripe is for SS only.
