2746  Orphans - documentation or VIN-stamped drivetrains - in search of the original cars / 1968 - Orphans / Re: L78 engine I have...8N392845 on: January 14, 2008, 04:43:00 PM
Jon,
Thanks for posting. The car is not in the database, so no help there.

Can I get a picture of the engine pad? No hurry, whenever you get a chance. Thanks!

Gardner makes probably the best original system out there.
But it will cost you in power. A LT1 Deuce owner ran 14.25 ET 98.69 MPH with his concourse car. Only changed the exhaust to Pypes - ran 13.50 ET 104.11 MPH.
.7 sec gain is a lot! Probably be more for a L78 or a L72.

Yes.

The Krylon Dull Aliminum is a perfect match.

Jerry

Krylon 1403.

Yes, a Z would have one fuel line.  The clamps were different for dual fuel lines.
2751  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: radiator option for 375HP 396 on: January 11, 2008, 01:33:44 AM
Yup, the ordering info said it didn't apply to Z or 396 engines. But it looks like it does apply to L78.

I'll update after I dig into this a little more to make sure.

Bad pic of the engine pad, but I still call it a fake from way back here......

2753  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Decoding/Numbers / Re: LOS Cowl tag decode on: January 09, 2008, 03:16:02 PM
HA is an L48 (SS350) engine code. It's thus an SS.
2754  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: radiator option for 375HP 396 on: January 09, 2008, 03:02:40 PM
In the April 1969 version of the Camaro Dealer ordering info the description for 'G80' changed as follows:

All rear axle ratios except 3.73 or 4.10...$42.15

Also includes HD radiator...$56.90
I thought I looked into this before - I thought it said something about non-SS cars.

But I just looked and found 4 cars that fit that very specific combination ((1) 3.73 &  (3) 4:10), build date range, and that we have docs on. All four are the higher price.

So this explains the later 3.73 and 4.10 cars with a 4 core. But it doesn't explain the earlier and the 3.55 axle cars with 4 cores. I think they were just in-plant substitutions due to inventory issues.
I even have the broadcast sheet for one of the 3.55 cars and it calls out a 3 core but it got a 4 core. Which points to substitution on the line.

Sorry, I missed this request. But that page and pictures loaded fine for me.

I believe Jerry looked at that car. Ask the seller for a copy of his report.

ok Kurt what publication are you getting your info from? Please l'd love to read them.
I'm pulling this info from the CRG database. It's real data from real cars.

But it's from a 68 big car, not a Camaro.

9N586481 looks pretty good for that engine date.
2760  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: Trying to verify 1968 SS L78 stripe delete on: January 04, 2008, 11:33:43 PM
A stripe delete would appear on the window sticker as special paint. It had stripes when it left the plant.
