General Discussion / Re: SB vs BB crossmember picture
« on: February 26, 2009, 07:14:39 PM »
Thanks guys!
I think I've got enough pics right now. But I'm working on the Firebird crossmembers, since they look similar as BB, but aren't the same.

The E is fine and very typical. No idea what the H was for.

It varied. Fisher did whatever they wanted with their calendar. Sometimes it could be a short week, sometimes they just tagged it onto the last week of the prior month.

Originality / Re: black cars with red stripes and those with white...

Interesting they have an exception for the coupes, but not for the convertibles. And that red interior affects silver and white cars, but not black cars.

Your observations may be correct, but you don't find many black convertibles, no less SS's with history. I know of only 3:-
1) I assume you're talking about George's car.
2) has no history back to day 1.
3) SS350 with white stripes, not sure they were original, trying to confirm.

There's several earlier August Z's out there.

Thanks!
I haven't tried to determine when they actually implemented shoulder belts. It probably was a few days before the end of the year.

Todd, Phillip, Jim, et al,
Do these 12D and 12E cars that have been discussed above have shoulder belts?
I know John's 12D Z does not.

The last VIN that CRG has listed for December 1967 is 368090. My VIN is 78 numbers before that.
The last VIN that GM listed for December 1967 is 368090.

The data shows that month was 'accurate', and your car was one of the last built in 67.
Does it have the shoulder belts in it?

General Discussion / SB vs BB crossmember picture
« on: February 22, 2009, 10:07:17 PM »
Anyone have a picture that shows the difference between the SB and BB crossmember?
Something like this picture, but clearer. :)

Also would be interested in a picture that compares the BB and the Firebird crossmembers.

The pictures would be used on the http://www.camaros.org/trans.shtml page and the photographer would be acknowledged. (So if they aren't your pics, we need to be able to get permission to use them.)

Thanks!

General Discussion / Re: 1967 1968 Camaro Reference Book

I don't think it's real glossy. If it's bound correctly and the pictures are clear, it's an original.

So, using the VINs listed for Dec 67 by CRG, is it safe to assume that Larry's car was among the last cars of the last day of 1967?  Are there other cars in the data base that have a later VIN and are still 12E?
I don't know his VIN, so I can't answer that.
But remember that is a Fisher date, vs the VIN list which is believed to be after final assembly. The build date vs the end of month - sometimes they are the same, sometime ahead, sometimes after.  Fisher weeks were not consistent and that VIN list has it's own problems (even though it was from GM).

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 1968 V0103 MO stamped block with no VIN
« on: February 21, 2009, 01:51:22 AM »
Those ZL1's were built with a suffix (and an intent), but then turned into service parts.

Most crate motors that I've seen did not have production suffixes on them.

Pad looks fine.
And no, it's fine here. The Orphan board is only for parts with known VINs stamped on them. :)

Mark doesn't have any old emails to tell him who he sold it to?

So close.....
