General Discussion / Forum posting guidelines :)
« on: January 28, 2011, 04:02:35 AM »
I and the other members of this forum really appreciate that the discussions and tone of the forum is civil and helpful. Keep it up!
Arguing and sniping at each other doesn't belong here.   :-X

Various cars and documentation are discussed on the CRG forum. Note that most owners and dealers do not have knowledge of the nuances of first-gen Camaros, so cut them some slack. Please be respectful of the owners / sellers of the cars and stick to the facts about the cars and/or documentation being discussed.

At the same time, this is a public forum where people can post their thoughts and opinions. If any owner or dealer is publicly displaying and/or advertising on the internet, then the item is obviously open for discussion. The owner or seller has the chance to participate in the discussion if they so wish.

General Discussion / Site help - with Javascript
« on: November 30, 2010, 06:09:46 PM »
I redid the decode page so that it clearer and has more examples.
I used some javascript to map out some pictures (to make sections of the pictures clickable). Everything works fine except for one table at the bottom of the page is showing up mostly blank in IE8 (fine in FF and IE9). Disable the javascript and it works fine.
Anyone have the knowledge to be able to help troubleshoot this?

Thanks!!

John has put together another excellent article on the Assembly Instruction Manual and how changes were implemented in the plant.

General Discussion / Sorry the forum was down
« on: September 07, 2010, 02:39:02 AM »
Sorry we had to take the forum down. We were getting some javascript hacks installed into some files and I took it down till I had some confidence that we had some greater level of protection in place (and I was traveling a bunch lately which didn't help).
The hacks weren't much - just advertising redirects from what I understand. But better safe than sorry....

Some software is flagging the forum as unsafe. Google says:
"Part of this site was listed for suspicious activity 1 time(s) over the past 90 days."
That *was* true. That warning should go away now that the hacks have been purged.

General Discussion / JohnZ's technical articles
« on: July 30, 2010, 03:36:56 PM »
JohnZ (aka John Hinckley) writes a series of technical articles and answers the Tech Column for Corvette Enthusiast Magazine. We are fortunate to be able to publish several of his Camaro-relevant articles on CRG. Lots of great info in them.

I made a button for them on the homepage (Technical Articles) and we hope to be able to add more articles in the future.

Originality / 1969 396 power steering hose question
« on: June 07, 2010, 05:17:42 AM »
I'm replacing the PS hose on my 69 396 05C car. Most of my car is original, but I see the SAE J188 spec on the old hose - I'm not sure that was on the original hoses.

The old hose is different than the replacement. The old one exits the back of the pump at 60 degrees, goes under the engine mount, and to the ps box. Fits great.
The replacement is not even close, it has a S-bend on the pump end.
Anyone have an original 69 BB with PS that can tell me which is on their car?

Following thru the books, there are two V8 hoses in the AIM - 3964564 (was 3953254) for 302 and 350, 3964565 for other V8's.
The 11/68 parts book list the 3953254 part for 350 and 396.  Later parts books list 3964564 for all V8's.  That makes sense.
But then I see 7811628 part in the 12/71 parts book that's only 69 396.  Where did that come from? Was there a different 396 part for real?

Nice thing is that the replacement should fit OK, just not as clean and direct as what was on the car.
Thanks!

Hmm, auction ended after only a few days. Probably sold it off of ebay.

Here is the new research article on Camaro foreign assembly plants. http://www.camaros.org/foreign.shtml
It's taken a lot of research, digging thru documents, emails, and data collected over the past 10 years. And a lot of help from people who researched a given plant or researched cars from a plant.
Of course, Rich's Yutivo article was instrumental for laying the foundation....

Of special note, there was another Camaro plant in Lima, Peru! That makes 5!

Thanks everyone who helped! And we are always looking for more information to make the article better. :)

Foreign Camaros / Camaros from foreign (non-US) assembly plants
« on: March 11, 2010, 01:31:59 PM »
Here's a research article on the foreign assembly plants: http://www.camaros.org/foreign.shtml
We're always looking for more data on any car from these plants or more information about the plants to help make a better article. :)

Thanks!

General Discussion / New discussion boards about specific models
« on: March 07, 2010, 06:38:25 AM »
I started three new discussion boards (right below the orphan boards) about specific models - cars from foreign assembly plants, L6 cars, and Z10's.

The idea is to have a place where people cars could exchange information about these cars. I was looking to help the underserved groups - I thought Z's and SS's are pretty well covered here and elsewhere on the web. :)

Research Topics & Reports / 1968 SS hood ornaments
« on: March 01, 2010, 10:56:34 PM »
The site says: For the 1968 model year, the chromed hood trim for SS396 changed from the simulated finned cooler to a set of simulated carburetor velocity stacks. The early 1968 model year SS350 continued to receive the 1967-style finned hood trim, but the SS350 trim transitioned to the velocity stack trim as the year progressed.

I'd like to have some data to document when the SS hood changed from the finned ornaments to the velocity stacks.
So, looking for data from original 1968 SS cars:
Build date, SS350 or SS396, finned or stacks, which plant.

Results (data in one of the last posts):
SS350 used finned up through Oct. So far, all Nov SS350 have stacks.
SS396 used stacks all of 68.

It would be good to find some LOS SS350 cars built in November to confirm what they used.

Thanks!
