General Discussion / Photos missing from older posts
« on: February 14, 2012, 05:07:53 PM »
It appears that when the forum got hacked last year, a bunch of photo attachments went missing. :(   This really is problematic in researching old posts.
If you've posted a picture as an attachment in a older post, but it's now missing, just email me the picture and state which post (date/title). I'll reattach it.
Takes some time, but worth it.

And yes, I've backed up all the pictures to make sure it doesn't happen again..... :)

Thanks!
Kurt

General Discussion / 69 SS wheel covers
« on: December 03, 2011, 06:42:59 PM »
I've never seen the 68 SS style wheel cover on a 69 SS. Some parts books show it, but I don't see it mentioned in any of the literature that I have. The SS features pages in the 69 ordering info clearly shows a standard P01 cover for P01, not the SS cover.
But if you ordered P01 on an SS in 69, did you get that SS cover?

The parts books also show that SS cover being on a 69 Nova SS, btw.

General Discussion / Camaro pic in the news
« on: November 22, 2011, 06:59:51 AM »
http://www.timesunion.com/news/article/4-dead-dozens-hurt-as-storms-pound-Southeast-US-2272250.php#photo-1759963

This AP photo was in our local paper - shows a nice 68 RS/SS396 convertible in LA with tornado damage all around it. Actually the pic in the paper was slightly different, it shows the rear of the car completely, including the plate 'RSSS396". Nice car, sorry for their loss......

General Discussion / 69 Champagne color car
« on: November 11, 2011, 03:03:55 AM »
It's a 69 Firebird, but very unusual to see any car in this color.  Way too soft a color for my tastes though, at least on this car.

General Discussion / European 67 Camaro on a TV show
« on: November 05, 2011, 01:59:00 AM »
I found a TV show, UFO, on youtube with a European 67 in it. It must be an export or foreign-built model because this show was shot in England.
Dark blue, RS, convertible, 765 deluxe interior, front bumper guards, disc brakes. Driving lights like the French cars have, some funky door mirror, and fender-mounted mirrors.

Lots of scenes with it in that first part (1:25-4:30), some in part#2 (at 7:30), #3 at 4:10, part #4 has a 68 Firebird at 4:35.

Restoration / 67-68 shifter mounting nuts - for sale
« on: August 10, 2011, 06:43:43 PM »
Many years ago, CRG had reproductions of the 67-68 shifter nuts made. These are the nuts that are used to mount the manual trans shifter housing to the transmission crossmember - shown on page A4 of the M20 section of the Assembly Manual (#14 and 18 in 67, #13 and 17 in 68).
These have not be repro'd by anyone else and we want to make them available to restorers. The price is $20 including shipping.
Paypal to my email or email me for my address.

Thanks!
Kurt

Decoding/Numbers / Database of "loose" / ebay trim tags
« on: March 08, 2011, 07:45:03 PM »
Kevin has made a site that lists and shows tags that were for sale on ebay, craigslist, etc. Mostly trim tags, but there are a few VIN tags too. Just an fyi.....

Site Comments/Discussion / Posting pictures information
« on: March 06, 2011, 07:31:51 PM »
You can upload pictures directly from your computer or phone to include in your post by using the "Attach" box. The "Attach" box shows when posting a new topic or a reply, but not when using "Quick Reply".

Images must be 200 KB or smaller.  There's a maximum of 4 attachments per post and the total of all of them can't be more than 500 KB. Make sure you crop the picture(s) to show only what needs to be shown.

Many (free) programs out there that resize picture files - almost any photo program does it. If you resize the pictures right, they don't have to be big files to be clear. Just downsize them to 700 or 800 pixels wide. If you keep the jpg quality factor lower (50 or 60 is fine), it takes up a lot less space than at 80-90 with little change in picture quality.
I use http://www.irfanview.com/ - works well and is free.
Many use http://www.obviousidea.com/windows-software/light-image-resizer/ - also free.

You can also to a picture hosting site like Flickr or Google. Both are free and pretty easy to use.
You can then copy the direct IMG code from the hosting site and paste it directly into your post. Again, you want to keep the size down to 700-800 pixels wide so it fits on the screen without scrolling and so it doesn't take forever to load for people with slower connection.

Lastly, you might change the file name as you save it so you still have the high resolution version (I just add an e to the end of the file name so I know it's been edited).

Site Comments/Discussion / Avatar size
« on: March 04, 2011, 02:50:28 PM »
Just a note that I upsized the avatars a little bit. The default was 65 x 65 pixels. I had increased that some originally, but I realized they can be wider without making the posts bigger. So I increased the max size to 100 x 70 pixels.
If the picture source is external (i.e. hosted on another site), then it probably adjusted automatically.
If you uploaded the picture, you'll need to upload a bigger pic to take advantage of the new size.

General Discussion / New SCCA Trans-Am discussion board
« on: March 03, 2011, 03:59:47 AM »
We've added a new Tran-Am discussion board for the 1st gens that were raced in that series. Jon has added some great pictures and history to the board already. The biographies that he's done are pretty amazing!
A big hat-tip to Jon for suggesting this and helping get it off the ground!
http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?board=19.0

As a side note, I'm going to integrate the Z10 board with the main discussion board. There's not enough activity to keep it as a separate board.

General Discussion / Password attacks
« on: February 17, 2011, 06:01:28 AM »
Just thought I'd let y'all know that the forum has been under a methodical attack for the past week (and before that too).
The spammers are going thru the user accounts and trying to login. They aren't trying brute force on a single account - they are looking for the one weak password out there. They try one person's account, when they fail to login, they try the next one.

I have no way of telling what passwords they are trying, but make sure your password isn't something easy like password or camaro!
