Research Topics & Reports / Original ignition coils
« on: August 02, 2018, 03:17:45 AM »
Lots of questions on what ignition coil is original. An often changed part and the original configurations are poorly documented in manuals.
One thing to know - the coil and bracket were shipped as an assembly to the assembly plant. What is a bit different is the last three digits of the assembly part # were the numbers embossed into the coil. The various brackets changed the angle /location of the coil for clearance.
Also the BR embossed on the coil went to B-R for 69 (the drawing change was dated 9/12/68)

What I know from the AIMs and broadcast sheets and car data.
67-69 L6: 1115208

67 V8: 1115267 used on many applications including LF7(base 327), L35, and L78.
Appears 270 and another coil (290??) were used on SS350 and L30 cars. It looks like the wiring harness and ignition resistance wire changed and so it may be an early vs late thing.

68 V8: 1115293 - all engines

69 V8: 1115293 - used on all engines except below
           1115298 - Z28
1115270 - Z28 and L48 with cowl hood  (but not BB with cowl hood)
           1115210 - ZL1 TI units

After pulling this together, the biggest question is the coil for the 67 L30 and L48 cars.
And the differences between the brackets.

General Discussion / Driveshaft Research Report
« on: April 11, 2018, 04:01:26 PM »
Bryon's research report is finally published! As the editor, I take the blame for being the delaying factor.
He did a great job on pulling together all the resources to make it happen.

I started a new forum area: Promotional Events and Concept Cars
I put Scott's great posts in there. I have also collected pics of concept cars and would eventually like to have separate threads about each one.

Originality / Pulley diameters - anyone have these pulleys
« on: March 21, 2017, 08:40:03 PM »
Can you help with this pulley list?
Here is a list of first gen pulleys that we don't have the diameter (list is also on-site). The alternator pulleys don't always have numbers stamped on them so it would have to come from an known original part.
Diameter is simply the OD of the part. (Originally, they would have been measured over steel balls because you care where the belt sits, not the OD.)  Sorry about the column alignment, took work to even get it this nice!
SB is small block, BB is big block, DG is deep groove.

Restoration / New tie rod ends and idler arm
« on: February 24, 2017, 06:29:08 AM »
The SS396 (69) needs new tie rod ends and an idler arm.
I see many different options out there. This is a driver - noone will notice if they don't look exactly original, but I'd prefer they at least look close.
Recommendations on what/whose to get?
Thanks!

Starting a thread about the details of original 67-68 stripes (but not Z28 stripes).
Here's the header stripe of an original paint 06C LOS 1968 car.

And here's the basic info on the stripes. http://www.camaros.org/exterior.shtml#stripes

General Discussion / VIN search issue
« on: October 19, 2016, 05:25:18 AM »
I've recently come across a search problem that's baffling me.
You used to be able to search a VIN via Google and it would find it anywhere, if it existed. That no longer works, which devalues the orphan listings.
123377L100013 is on the orphan docs page. Search it (or any other VIN on that page) via Google and nothing comes up. The only way to find it is via the forum search function. Or via Bing.
Anyone have any insight? Anyone want to reach out to Google and ask why?

Original Cars and Details / Silver 69 Z28
« on: June 09, 2016, 03:37:15 AM »
Here's a nice survivor that Steve has.
This car was purchased new at H.O.B. Motors in North Plainfield, NJ by Don K. The car was dealer inventory and on the lot. The car has few options: console, gauges, and deluxe comfort weave interior. No spoilers, no cowl hood and not even a radio, although on the dealer invoice a Motorola AM radio is noted. The original owner had it until 2009 and put only 32k miles. Never modified and even the smog was never removed.

General Discussion / JL8 master cylinder
« on: May 11, 2016, 08:04:03 PM »
Looking for confirmation of the JL8 master cylinder code. Is it US or something else?
JL8's don't have the residual pressure valve for the rear brakes. Maybe that was part of the master cyl assembly and the master cyl's are the same.
