Hotrod is right.  The fact that it is a Z is major.
Even thought it is a Chevelle 396 motor, 396 motors were also very desirable.
You got the best of all worlds there.

If you are restoring it to original then put on the stripe.
But if your question is about looks, then the more "modern" black-on-black look is great and better stripe-less.

Well, this is a non-Camaro answer.  Last year an AACA buddy of mine did a whole lot of work on his Corvair.  One of the things he did was to add sound deadener.  The kind he used was more brush on (and nasty to apply) than what appears on the website you listed.  I can only tell a very slight difference (and in a Corvair... well, who cares?).  But he swears it is a noteable diiference.  So, I pressed him and he says, "Well, maybe about 25% quieter..."

So, this really is a subjective issue...

I've commented before on this site about driving a 69 Camaro a few years ago that had been modified and a new Vette steering system, etc. now graced the front end.  I thought I would like it... But I HATED it.  It was way too jerky!

I've got my own "theory" about the steering feel of all the so-called coke bottle style bodies of the 60s --manual or power steering.  I think the feel has a "floating" sensation to it.  It seems more pronounced in the Mustang than in the Camaro.

Would still love to hear from some more of you...

BTW, JKZ27, I love your comment about the cracked steering wheel.  My theory about cracked steering wheels is most of them came from holding on tight when you pushed the gas peddle down to the floor.  Grin

Thanks John!  I didn't think it was the same steering system.  I'm actually surprised it was the same as the early Chevy II.

I'd love to know whay you think about manual vs poer steering in 1st gen Camaros?  Huh

I realize this is a fairly subjective question...  Wink

I've been watching a thread (and a poll) on Team Camaro about manual vs power steering with great interest.  My 68 has power steering and I'm not about to switch to manual... Haven't owned a car with maual steering since the 60s.  (Let's face it, at slow speeds or in a tight situation, it's like driving a bus.) But several of my classic car friends (and I noticed in this poll several folks who have maual steering) claim they can "feel" the road better.

Do you think you get a better feel with manual?  If so, how and why?  Huh Huh Huh

There were actually several interior color possibilities in 68.  They were related to exterior color, but not necesarily the same, and you could customize some. (I'm a long way from my research info. right now or I would tell you what they are.)

But...
If your car is a Norwood car look at the interior number on your cowl tag.  I'm betting it says 712, which is black standard interior.

Well, I'm old enough to remember...  Cabbage head and also a couple of politically incorrect names.
Are you just considering a cosmetic change; i.e., 12 bolt look but all 10 bolt stuff including the gear assembly?
I'm really not sure any of it would work.  It might fit, but what would you gain?

Yep, stick to John's advice.

When I bought my 68 327/powerglide, the previous owner had just put 15x7 rally wheels with brand new WIDE tires on it.  Since my car is a driver for now, needless to say, I'm going to run them for a while.  You can't tell by my thumbnail picture, but too wide is not a good look.  Eventually, I'm going to stock.
