OK, so far we've gotten about 250 views and only 26 votes.  PLEASE VOTE!

Dab67, You're going to make us wait till April?!?  Royal Plum was another one of the great 60s/70s colors (at least in my opinion... One of my friends used to have a plum colored AMX that drew crowds at shows like a magnet.).  Cannot wait to see it!

Summertime, I'd love to see that black on black.  That's timeless!  (But hard to keep clean... I've got a new all black car and would love to keep it out of the rain...)

That's worth knowing that cars with vinyl tops may not have gotten as much TLC at the factory.

I guess that is an important point.  First, yellow cars do look good with black vinyl.  Second, vinyl is a 60s and 70s look.

As a matter of fact, you just missed a set that came off a 69... but don't worry I counted five off of Camaros and about 30 more that should work.

OK, you have to post us a picture...

My 68 was SS cloned by the previous owner.  Until I go to have it repainted, I'm driving it as is.  Then, I'm going back to original.  After all, isn't that what we are all about?  We love the Camaro --the original Camaro.

As to the black vinyl top, the previous owner added it to my buttewrnut yellow car.  I'll have to admit... it looks good.  I've seen several posts on other sites that claim a butternut yellow car is "incomplete" without that vinyl top.  But then, in both our cases, it would not be original.  You might want to look at my poll:

Of course, your car is your car... and if you are not going to show it... then it is up to you... as long as we all do like Rich69rs said and disclose at sale...

Let us know what you decide!

I really did measure it center to center.  But I'll go back and do it, again!  .25" isn't that big a difference, so I'll make doubly sure and let you know. ;D
So, are 3" for small block and 3.25" for big block? ???

Yes, take John's advice, get it running and see what you've got.
If it turns out to be a piece of junk, that's a different story.  And what Rich69rs said is also true in the southeast.
If we are really Camaro lovers, we need to preserve them as best we can.

Either way, you've got the potential for a great, classic ride! ;D

MMMM ERT,
Was it much trouble (beyond the rust) preparing the roof for painting?
I've know guys would did away with their vinyl, but never heard them talk about sanding the roof to get it ready to paint.
Thanks for the info. ;D

I looked my five blade fan over, and you are right, I found no numbers.
I thought sure it would be 3-inch, but it looks like it is 3.25. (center to center)
I do know my motor is not orginal, but it is a 327 and the fan fits fine... and the air works great.
Not sure I really helped you, but good luck

MMMM ERT, did your car have rust when you removed the vinyl and was it at the bottom of the back window (like most 60s chevys) or elsewhere?

Dab67, what colors? Post us a picture...

Drdave, as you can see my car has a vinyl roof.  The fellow who had it before me put it on and did a great job.  But my trim tag says YY, so its not original.  Still, everybody tells me that Butternut Yellow looks better with black vinyl.  The next time I have it painted, I need to decide whether to take it back to original.  That's the reason for my poll.

I've heard pro and con on vinyl roofs for the first generation Camaro.
What do you think?

I do not keep my 68 (with AC) at my home, but I will measure the fan holes center to center over the weedend.  I see from the picture (by the way, great car!) that you have a 350.  Mine is a 327, but after looking at the service and assembly manuals, I THINK they are the same.  (To be honest, I've got a great freind who is a specialty mechanic and he does all my AC and electrical work.  AC is a mystery to me... but much loved in July in NC!)

If this will help in your search, the 68 assembly manual refers from the V-8 page to the RPO K02 page about the fan.  There, it refers to the fan (and it does show a five-blade in the drawing) as "3789562 Blade Asm - Fan" and the clutch as "3916139 Clutch Asm".  Not having my car here, I will have to check if my fan has the same or similar numbers this weekend.  I do not know.

Of course, someone (hint, hint) may see this and go ahead and give you an answer....

Decoding/Numbers / Re: 1969 SS
« on: March 09, 2006, 03:32:22 AM »
Don't give up...
On the downside, Chevy-Camaro.com says its almost impossible to tell about SS without the original motor.  (In other words, you can't easily "back into" an SS just by figuring the options.) :-\
But give us your whole trim tag and any other numbers and details you can find.  You did not include everything about your trim tag, did you?  Does the exterior code have an X code?  That MIGHT point to a SS possibility... ;D
When one of the CRG members sees this, they will want all your numbers... ???
