Restoration / Re: 67 radiator
« on: May 07, 2006, 01:59:49 AM »
Looks to me like 3010176 (67-68 Camaro with P.G.; 8 cyl.)--which is a 2 core row radiator (since no a/c).
You can figure it out by looking at this:

Keep driving and keep voting.
It looks like most of us are occasional drivers.

AC45 & 45S were originally for 283 & 307 ( 2BC) in 68.
AC44 was originally for Camaro with 4BC (except 396).
AC44S (extended shield) was for 327 & 350 in Camaro (and Chevelle)

General Discussion / How Much Do You Drive?
« on: May 02, 2006, 01:34:44 AM »
Another classic car driver has parked his ride due to the high price of gas! :o
My 68 Mustang buddy informed me he is parking his Mustang and buying a hybrid.  What's this world coming to?  Hydrogen?  ???

But he got me thinking... How much do we drive our Camaros?
Please vote in the poll (for as many 1st Gen Camaros you own) and post a message on your classic driving habits!  ;D

As for me, I'm a weekend cruiser.  Haven't resorted to a hybrid during the week yet.  But I do drive a black on black sports car that gets 30+ mpg --as long as I go easy on the gears...

Let me hear from you...

Yep, "H" and "the EH style key with the rectangular/oval head but with CD grooving..."

Sorry, did not mean to "cut you off".  I was just picking up on your original post about "early style" and JohnZ's reply about NOS.
Actually, I was referring to the replacement keys that are NOT "early style".  (You really have to hunt for the "early style" in their online store.) They give this disclaimer in the online store for their "replacement keys": "Note: 1967-68 keys are later model design and will work but do not resemble the early model Briggs and Stratton keys. Genuine GM Replacements."
But you guys had already covered it, so I dropped it from the post.
That does explain, however, why many of us are walking around with E/F keys to start our 68s. I was given two sets of keys for my 68 by the seller.  He said, "One set is the original."  But both are actually E/F replacements.
Thanks for reminding us of Rich's report.  It's interesting that keys changed that much in the late 60s.  Sign of the times...
And thanks for an enlightening thread! ;D

According to the Cherolet Motor Division, all Chevy 68 ignition and door lock keys were hexagon head, part # 7034680, and they cost you 12 cents plus tax.  ::)

67 & 68 Camaros were in production from September to July.  69 ran to November, thanks to the delay in the 70 model.  There is a VIN report in CRG General Information:

That's what it looks like from the picture(s).

The metal piece (in your picture) which attaches to the body and base of the mirror also looks too wide for a 68 mirror.  But I'll be the first to admit that there could be some sort of exception.  I've just never seen it.  Years ago, I did own a 57, but my sister (whom I have forgiven) totaled it.

Let me suggest that you email Bertfam (Ed Bertrand) with the picture and ask him. If the gasket has a part # on it, tell him that, as well.  I'm not trying to speak for him (and do not presume to), but I do know he has a P&A that covers 68 parts.  I've emailed with him about the P&A.  I'd love to find one, but they are expensive!

I'm going to stick by my original statement... which included "make sure you get the right year for your car".  I knew I had seen a rounded gasket on a Chevy before... Take a look at these two sites:

http://www.mrnomad.com/product.asp?pid=658&scid=32&wf=cat

http://www.paddockparts.com/Paddock/productr.asp?pf%5Fid=W1025&gift=False&0=dept%2Easp%2Cdept%5Fid%3D5%26menu%5Fid%3D%26Tree%3D%2CCamaro&1=dept%2Easp%2Cdept%5Fid%3D137%26menu%5Fid%3D%26Tree%3D0%2CCamaro%20Mirrors&2=product%5Ffamily%2Easp%2Cfamily%5Fid%3D3116%26Tree%3D1%2CMirror%20Gaskets&HSLB=False&mscssid=0D713F7FD2C449E29C81BA364769F28A

I also checked The Paddock, Classic, Rick's, Ground Up, and Old Muscle Cars, they all show the same squared off base like Ecklers for a 68 Camaro.  I've had my 68 (December, Norwood) judged twice with squared off mirror base and received no deductions for it.

Now that you mention it, it is sort of rounded...
Anyway, the "replacement originals" come as a kit with bracket, gasket and screws.  It ought to fit in the same screw holes.
Lot's of places have them.  Here's Eckler's repo:
http://www.ecklerscamaro.com/product.asp?pf%5Fid=702038&dept%5Fid=1445
Of course, you can pay two hundred dollars for an original type on the same site.
I bought mine at a local place, but most of the mail order places have the same thing.

Also, take a look at this, before you put it on:

General Discussion / Re: Does anything seem wrong with this auction?

I see you pulled out... probably wise!
I noted that there is now one feedback.  It is positive, but the item had nothing to do with cars, old or new.  It looks like some guy tried to sell a car using his wife's access to Ebay.
It will be interesting to see how it turns out....
