Originality / U46 Light Monitoring
« on: September 05, 2006, 01:48:48 AM »
I'm looking for more information on the U46 Light Monitoring option.  I know it appeared in Camaros in 1968 (standard on Vette) and was actually pretty advanced since it was fiber optic.  I've seen the option sheets in the AIM and the description of how the system worked in 12-2 of the 68  Service Manual.  Does anybody have any further information or know where I could find it?
Appreciate the help!

Does anyone have a good picture of an original 68 U63 or U69 (AM or AM/FM) radio?
Would appreciate the help!

Originality / 68 Battery Question
« on: September 01, 2006, 01:03:35 AM »
In 68 (or any year) was the T60 Heavy Duty Battery tied to any other option (like AC or BB. etc.)?  Or was it just a cold weather start option?

I realize this is a fairly subjective question...  ;)

I've been watching a thread (and a poll) on Team Camaro about manual vs power steering with great interest.  My 68 has power steering and I'm not about to switch to manual... Haven't owned a car with maual steering since the 60s.  (Let's face it, at slow speeds or in a tight situation, it's like driving a bus.) But several of my classic car friends (and I noticed in this poll several folks who have maual steering) claim they can "feel" the road better.

Do you think you get a better feel with manual?  If so, how and why?  ??? ??? ???

(Thanks in advance!)  ;D

Looking for the web sites, but had little success...
Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / How Much Do You Drive?
« on: May 02, 2006, 01:34:44 AM »
Another classic car driver has parked his ride due to the high price of gas! :o
My 68 Mustang buddy informed me he is parking his Mustang and buying a hybrid.  What's this world coming to?  Hydrogen?  ???

But he got me thinking... How much do we drive our Camaros?
Please vote in the poll (for as many 1st Gen Camaros you own) and post a message on your classic driving habits!  ;D

As for me, I'm a weekend cruiser.  Haven't resorted to a hybrid during the week yet.  But I do drive a black on black sports car that gets 30+ mpg --as long as I go easy on the gears...

Let me hear from you...

I've heard pro and con on vinyl roofs for the first generation Camaro.
What do you think?

If not, why?

Decoding/Numbers / Anything on this VIN and Engine Code Question
« on: February 04, 2006, 03:30:25 AM »
My 68 coupe has this VIN: 124378N363264.  Is it in CRG data base?
Also, I am not sure the motor is original.
The partial VIN on the motor is almost illegible.  I can make out an F and a couple of #s but not enough to make it out.
The engine code is clear: V0614HN (The 1 looks more like an "I".)  If I read this right, then it is a Flint, Michigan, June 14, 327-250hp.  Is that right?
The cowl tag gives a 4th week of December build date.  Would that enigine code be close enough for the build date?
Help CRG ??? ??? ???

Maintenance / Brake Fluid Leak
« on: January 04, 2006, 03:10:08 AM »
Help CRG.   ??? A day or so after I drive my 68, I get a drop or two leak of brake fluid.  I've isolated the leak to a line connection near the master cylinder and think (hope) I've fixed it.  My question is: Why the leak a full 24 hours after driving?  I never saw it leak right after driving.  I would have thought that the pressure of appling the brakes would make the leak show up right away.  (The line is a front disc line, by the way.)  Is this just a wierd coincidence or the nature of brake line leaks?
