Still curious...I've got 41 posts now and I'm still classified as "Newbie".  What's the cutoff?

I hate being called a Newbie   ;D

Maintenance / Propensity to stall...
« on: April 06, 2007, 01:58:02 AM »
My 68-RS 327/210 runs great except when coming from a cruise to stop - for example, when going from 40mph to pull into a gas station.

It tends to want to stall out.  She catches up pretty quick and hasn't actually stalled out but has gotten real close to it.

Any suggestions?  Perhaps the fuel pump or fuel filter?

Thanks,
Don

General Discussion / Re: Camaro History

You make a good point and I did not know this.  I guess its also got to do with the marketing and what we see on television.

It will be be good to see the Camaro make a nice splash at its unveiling with a little history behind the vehicle.

Thanks.

General Discussion / Camaro History
« on: December 23, 2006, 03:38:59 PM »
??? What's the equivalent history of the Chevrolet Camaro as compared to Ford Mustang and Shelby?   ???

I love my 68-RS convertible but I'm also value the history of Ford and the Carol Shelby.  Is there an "Icon" for Carmaros like there is for the Ford Shelby GT 500?  I was watching Barrett-Jackson the other night and they had a special about how Edzel Ford and Carol Shelby are back together again for the launch of the next generation GT 500.  http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=105085

We haven't even brought out the new concept Camaro yet...any history bufs out there that can chime in on this topic?

Thanks!

All,

Does anyone know of a similar discussion / research group for Mustang owners?  I have a friend with a 1970 Mach1 and he's interested in doing some research.

Thanks,
Don

Research Topics & Reports / Re: 68 RS center grille
« on: October 27, 2006, 04:22:59 AM »
Steve,

Got your email.  Here's my response to your questions (survey):
For 68 RS owners that have vehicles that were manufactured by GM as RS cars.

1.  Does your car currently have an original center grille?
     C. Not sure but it appears to be

2.  Is it a:
-> Sorry - not sure if it is GM or non-GM

3.  The center grille currently is:
     B. Black

4.  My center grille was replaced in:
     G. Not sure

5.  The replacement center grille came from:
     B. NPD, Year One, Ricks, Classic Ind, etc.
-> I believe the grille was replaced.  I don't have this data from previous owner

6.  The replacement part number was GM 3919060
      C. Don't know

This thread is pretty large but I'll try to read thru most of the threads to determine where to find the replacement part number.  I'll be in touch.

By the way, my car is a Los Angeles built 68-RS.  Build date is 02A (1st week of February 1968)

Originality / Re: AC Delco AM Radio (differences for 68 vs 69)

That was my point - the CA-139 was listed under the Camaro radios at the referenced website.

I'll also search the CRG forum for the discussion on the radios.

Thanks Mark!

I noticed the radio you referenced was different than the 68 Camaro radio.  I've attached pic below.  Notice the shafts on either side of the radio next to the knobs.  What's that?

Appreciate the tip!

Don

Restoration / AC Delco AM Radio (differences for 68 vs 69)
« on: October 23, 2006, 12:20:06 AM »
Anyone know if a 69 AC Delco AM radio is same/similar or compatible to the 68?  I've got a 68 RS without the original radio and I found a 69 but not sure if they're a match.

68 to 69 didn't change that drastically so I can't imagige GM would have changed the standard (standard interior) radio.

 ???

Thanks!

Ask the old lady where she bought the car.  I bought my 68-RS from California as well and tried to go back to the dealer - Parker Robb Chevrolet in Walnut Creek, CA but they are under different ownership and no longer have records from Parker.

Good luck.  I about pulled my hair out trying to originate mine.  It too has very low mileage - 37k documented miles, and I knew I had come across something special.  Thing is it is special - you don't have to kill yourself searching every nook and cranny to prove it.  At the end of the day - you're really the only one that needs to be happy with it.

Enjoy the ride!!

Maintenance / Temperature sensor in engine block

Curious if anyone's removed the temp sensor in their engine block if they had to drain the coolant from the block first?

Thanks -

Maintenance / Re: Door locks won't come up with the key?
« on: August 30, 2006, 02:45:57 AM »
I'm more for taking the interior door panel off.  These cars are basically 40 years old, and sometimes they just need a little TLC - which means opening things up and taking a look inside.  I had a similar problem with mine and the locks needed adjusting which could only be done by removing the interior door panel.

You never know what else you may find behing there.  When I pulled mine off there was a TON of greese in the door well.  Looked like a previous, previous owner may have tried to lube it up with the wrong stuff.

Good luck and don't be afraid to open her up!   ;)

Originality / Re: 1968 Camaro emblems question (Rally Sport)
« on: August 09, 2006, 11:53:09 AM »
I was a little worried for a bit there, as I did not want to have to muck with lifting emblems just after finishing the resto.  I also have a number of "restoration" books and I've never seen anything that said 68 had different emblems.  I put a TON of research into the Camaro before doing the resto, so naturally I was a little confused when this guy came by.

Thanks guys - you made my day!

Originality / 1968 Camaro emblems question (Rally Sport)
« on: August 08, 2006, 03:52:03 AM »
Is the "rally sport" emblems for 1968 Camaros lower case or upper case?  I was at a car show this past weekend and someone came by my car saying that the emblems were incorrect.  I've attached a picture.

He also said my grille and gas cap were incorrect, as they too are lower case.

I have a 68 RS.

Thanks,
Don
