Restoration / Window guide roller lube
« on: April 04, 2007, 04:00:34 AM »
Hey guys,

I have not found a discussion regarding the correct or suitable lube for window guide rollers and tracks. Also, what works good to clean the old crusty stuff off all the rollers etc?

Thanks, Dan

I paid $105 for mine about 2 years ago (off the Team Camaro site). I cringed at the time but someday we'll probably say, remember when you could get one for "only" $200? Hopefully smooth ones aren't that bad. Any sellers out there? Thanks, Dan

Alright guys,

I'm still on the hook for a smooth one! That was a great reference page as to what goes with what. Now, unfortunately for me I spoke to soon. I spent two days at the swap meet and came home without a smooth one (KevinK, you want to sell yours? ;-). Anyway, glad to finally get the straight scoop on this. Thanks, Dan

Ed,
I am correct in thinking that the woodgrain dash panel went with the deluxe interior group from the start of the 68 model year right? I have deluxe parchment and had put an orignal woodgrain piece in since mine was missing. Before I ever saw a black 68 style ashtray, I found a nice woodgrain ashtray and put it in to match. Then I saw a smooth black one listed on ebay. I thought, what does that go in and when? Since then I have picked up a textured style one just to have. So now it looks like I'll have to get the smooth one for my build date (12C) to be correct. Also, was the black style center panel for standard interior only and all the way through the model year? Thanks again for all of the clarifications. Ya gotta love the 68 mid-year stuff! My car is also A-2, Tuxedo and black vinyl top.

Dan

Guys,

See. I knew it. My car is a 3rd week Dec. 67 car. Pre woodrgrain and after Franks (cfar)'s car. Of course I don't have the smooth one ;-(. Good thing I'm going to the Turlock, Ca. swapmeet this weekend. Look out smooth ashtrays!! Here I come. Thanks again everyone, Dan

Funny you should mention the console guage surround. I had him do that too plus the black in the middle of the deluxe dash pad stainless and two of the console guage faces where the yellow had faded. All my pieces were original GM so I didn't want to change them. My guy did a great job of matching the factory colors including the fluorescent guage needles too. Good luck, Dan

Well guys,

Does it make sense that the first black one used would be the textured one since it followed the 67 version which is textured with the flat face? I looked again at the part #'s listed earlier thinking that they might be sequential in numbers but Noooooo! The good news for me is I have a black textured one and a woodgrain one. But I'll probably need the smooth one ;-)! I do like the looks of the woodgrain all together with the radio surround and console pieces. Anyway, thanks for the replies, Dan.................p.s. what do the stamped numbers on the bottoms mean. They are not the part #'s listed? My woodgrain has an "M" with the number IA27762 below it and the black one has AAD with 2753-1 below it. Hmmmmm?

They look really nice. I tried a set of mylars from a different "vendor". Probably not as good as quality as they were actually a little too wide and no matter how I positioned them, they hung off the side edges a little bit somewhere. I gave up and had a local pinstriper do mine in shiny silver paint and they look really good. But still not the same as heat stamped when you look close. Great job, Dan

Great thread everyone,

In an earlier post there were 3 different part #'s listed. I have seen two different black 68 style ashtrays in the past and wondered what was up. One has the grain similar to a 67 but is shaped like a 68 woodgrain ashtray. The other was shaped the same way but was a smooth satin black finish. My car is a 12C with deluxe int. and a console. I opted for the ebay route and picked up a great condition woodgrain unit about 2 years ago. Now it looks like mine should be black as well. But which black one? Thanks in advance, Dan

Pete,

Here are the tag #'s for you.

12437 is GM's #s denoting Camaro sport coupe with standard interior. The NOR# is the Norwood, Ohio plant sequence# for when and where the car was made.

760z is black standard interior with with custom bucket seat trim.

F-F is Marina Blue paint color (top & bottom, no vinyl).

2LG is 4-speed with a console.

3SL is interior decor group, Rally Sport option

4K is the one that's exciting: SS-396/375 hp !!!!

Hope this helps,
Dan

Here is the pic I used to go by for my car. Mine had most of the original int., although thrashed, so it was nice to see a completed look.

Probably a FORD Guy! I guess he doesn't have a current parts catalog from any of the hundreds of after market suppliers either. 67's and 68's are all lower case. He must of been thinking of a 69?? And then 69's don't even have an exposed gas cap. Best to let those guys just talk. P.S. Nice looking car too!

Anybody in Northern Cal. know where it is?? Good luck,
Dan

Arno,

When I bought mine I thought the channel seals that were included were too stiff to lay down nice, but once I started working them on, they fit really nice. Like I mentioned before, I used one of my original moldings and both of the new seals and they worked great. If I remember correctly, they did appear to be two walled cause they looked exact inside the channel. I also installed a set of soft seal rubbers and they took a little work to slide on, but all in all the fit was pretty good. When I wash the car I don't blast pressure right against the windows but so far no leaks at the seals or weather strips. Also, I did buy my set about a year and a half ago, thus the price increase. Hopefully some others will chime in on their experiences. Good luck,

Dan

Arno,

I bought a set from D & R classic and ended up only using one side as I was able to clean up one of my originals. I had a couple of extras for each side that were missing some chrome and I looked at all of them from every angle and couldn't tell any difference. So my car has one orig. and one repo and they look great. I think they were somewhere in the $50-60 range for the pair? Good luck,

Dan
