General Discussion / Panama 69 RS Z-28 sighted (PICS NOW ADDED)
« on: April 20, 2007, 11:49:09 PM »
Im heading home from a S. America trip tomorrow and could not believe my eyes when I arrived at a restaurant yesterday in Panama City (central america)and there was a 69 RS Z-28 in the parking lot...and better yet it was really hurtin...the one fender appeared to be painted with a can..the door was all dented..it was jacked up in the rear and overall was in bad shape, but obviously daily driven. i briefly checked the car out...It was (I believe) lemans blue...it had black houndstooth...early walnut wheel...6k tack and guages(although the colors on the tach were very faded)..12 bolt, discs, rear bumper guards..flat hood... it had the one fender and rear Z emblems and a Panama license plate...it was either missing the hideaways or they were open..I really didnt look at it too long, because I just had to speak with the owner, so I snapped 2 quick pics and entered the restaurant to search for the owner..next thing, I heard the rumble of glass packs?? in the parking lot...the car was pulling away as I ran out of the restaurant  :(:(:(   Anyway, it just goes to show that they are still out there..

You just gotta go a little further to find them...

im not sure how to post the pics...anyone help?

General Discussion / Jerry's penna. visit
« on: April 12, 2007, 01:17:14 AM »
I had the pleasure recently of having Jerry visit my home. He came to drop off my original Zl-1 motor for my car and to appraise/document my 69 L78 M-22 indy. My hat's off to him for such a beautiful job he did restoring and rebuilding my motor. I dont know if I ever need to put it in the car as everyone who sees it  just sitting in my garage is awestruck!! I'm sure it will run as good as it looks. I'm actually planning to have it dynod shortly. I'll keep you posted on the results. I just have to get going on restoring the car now!! My brother, father and everyone in my office were excited with anticipation to have "the actual Jerry Macniesh"in the flesh at my house...no repros or fakes here!!!  hahaha

Anyway, I could tell where Jerry's heart is as he actually killed the batteries of his camera before he started the appraisal on my Indy because he took so many pics of my 67 Z project cars  :) My heart is where Jerry's is ever since I bought that 67 camaro (327-auto) when I was 15 yrs old for 75 bucks and turned it into a 67 Z...with the stripes and 69 Z emblems and all!!   hahaha

Jerry has restored a number of components for my cars over the years...and of course he took with him a few more of my parts to restore when he left...

Jerry, I hoped you enjoyed seeing my small collection of cars and parts...or as my Mom always put it...my junkers!! (God Bless her soul)...if she only knew now...hahaha

Once again ...my hats off to you and thanks for a job well done on my motor...

                         thanks a million,    Max

Originality / Did GM ever put M-20 in 69 Z-28??
« on: August 12, 2006, 07:41:38 PM »
did they ever put a m-20 in a 69 z originally??  i have recently looked at a 69 camaro that i had known locally back in the 80,s....I lost track of the car for years, but recently was told about this z-28 that had been stored for years...etc...etc............anyway, the car is an L.A  car ....it has the 12 bolt and discs, tach and guages,  and little plate on the rear frame rail, etc.   the original 302 is long gone, but the original muncie with the VIN is there ...but it seems to be an m-20....it has 2 rings on the input and is a wide ratio trans.....the car has always had the stripes and Z emblems and all the other parts...(supposedly it even had the 302) since back in the day...the car even has the old cowl air cleaner with the 302 sticker  in real rough shape....i just always assumed it was a real Z since when I first knew the car ....., but I was under the impression that it would have to have a m-21 or m-22 if it was a Z.

I realize there is no way to tell if it is real for sure without paperwork, but I'd like to know if it is definitely not a Z. I actually figured it wasnt because of the trans, but I recently saw a Z for sale all original with paperwork and a m-20???  thanks...

Decoding/Numbers / 69 INDY L78 M-22...REAL CAR??
« on: June 12, 2006, 10:24:46 AM »
I purchased a package of parts a while back that included a pacecar project car(basket case). I was wondering if anyone knows any history on the car?? I have spoken to the owner from 1979 who says he pulled the original 375 hp motor in favor of a 350. Apparently the car is known as it was once listed on ebay. The car is in bad shape, but still retains the original paint. The car has a manual top and no console, which I find interesting. Car was in Ny state most of its life apparently. I have posted on camaros.net also. Any info would be appreciated. Is there an official pacecar registry??

    thanks

ps.  i do have the M-22 with the partial vin and the C code suffix on the assembly date.

   car info is:  vin 617795
