Originality / Re: Engine Dressup Kit
« on: October 31, 2007, 08:14:46 PM »
I find a lot of info in some the more generic books about Camaros to be suspect, eg crossrams were original, etc. They seem to believe whatever myths are out there more than doing their homework as to what is correct, but maybe that's to help spice up their books and increase sales? They do usually have nice pics.

Where did you get the VIN? I can't see it in the pic and it's not in the listing info?

General Discussion / Re: 1969 rs z28 production #'s?

A  reasonable statistical analysis for the 69 RS (like the ones done by Jerry for 67 & 68) would work if there was a big enough data base of actual cars correct? How many documented cars of the total would that take? 10% of the total Z/28 population or 2030 cars. Would that work?

Yes, I would agree it is a "B"

The pistons in this engine do not appear to be 69 302 TRW pistons with single long valve clearance/relief groove?  Maybe 67/68 302 Pistons??  Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

General Discussion / Re: 302 jetting
« on: October 09, 2007, 08:21:53 PM »
Can you clarify for me the 68/76 designation?  Is this the stock jet size Primary/Secondary?
I am having a to rich condition with my Very stock 69Z
Car is in CT so I am close to Sea level

Thanks

Stock 4053 jetting is #68 (primary) and #76 (secondary); if yours is set up this way, you shouldn't have any rich condition unless you have a leaking or failed power valve. Are you rich at idle, or cruise, or?

Jerry re-jetted my 4053 to 72/76 when he restored it, and it runs fine; stock, with the 30-30 cam.

Thanks for the info on the jetting, especially on the secondary side. I am going to have to back mine down to 76's and see how it reacts; I currently have 79's as I moved up the primarys and secondary together, as that is what I had been led to believe was the correct approach. But since it's already been figured out by others, I can jet mine accordingly.

Possible fuel leaking into the system somehow, possibly the fuel bowl metering block gaskets?

General Discussion / Ohio Pumpkin run
« on: October 08, 2007, 02:06:45 PM »
Was at annual "Pumpkin Run" car show in Owensville OH yesterday. Over 2,800 cars registered there. Didn't see a whole lot of 1st gen.Camaros and next to none that appeared to be original Z's etc. Thought I would see more considering the number of cars there, but maybe this wasn't the show?? Or maybe I missed them??

General Discussion / Re: How FAST Do You Drive?
« on: October 05, 2007, 07:12:24 PM »
Hey I admit I do not get on mine Z too much, and from what I know of its history, it has probably never seen the drag strip. Which is probably why it still has all the original drive train. Just run through the gears occasionally to test my arthritis!. When I am talking to someone about how it has survived without too  much hot rod abuse, I like to point to the original chrome ball on the shifter (it actually only has chrome left on the bottom near the tapped mounting hole). That ball was usually the first thing removed and replace with a Hurst Tee handle!! Supposedly my car was originally purchased and drive by a salesman who made calls with it. That lasted until the gas price crunch, when it got parked.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Possible Yenko found in Michigan?

IMO, I would think that for a car like this, bringng it back would be for the love of it. I don't see how this could be a smart financial move.

General Discussion / Re: 4053 DZ SPECS

Dave, could you try installing it on the car and see if it will adjust and idle correctly? That would easier for me versus trying to figure out all specs, etc? Hoe do you even measure all those bleed holes etc. without some sophisticated equipment or gages?

It is a Norwood Car, so I might look next time I'm working the area, but I'm not going to make it a special job. Thanks for the replies

General Discussion / Build sheet on gas tank
« on: September 29, 2007, 01:00:09 AM »
I have heard of some finding the build sheet on top of the gas tank on some Camaros. The tank on mine has never been off the car, and so I'm curious about finding it (the build sheet). Is there any way to determine if it is there short of removing the tank? If not, I won't worry about it, cause I'm not removing the tank just to check.

Be sure all pulleys are designed for, and correct for the same V belt. I'm guessing they are. I once had a belt problem years ago when a clerk at the local parts store sold me a V belt which was designed for a different size pulley (smaller) because "my belt was not in stock, but this one was" The belt I was sold was thiner for a smaller type Sheave (pulley) After about a month, it literally was hanging on by only the thin strip of metal which was in the center of the original belt. The reason? because it was thinner, it rode deeper on the sheave, and was force to turn at a radius tighter than it was designed for, resulting in its destruction in a very short time. Good luck.
