Is that brown "sealant" on the trim tag rivets correct, or has that been re done?

Originality / Re: 69 Gas Caps revisited - original Cap?
« on: March 03, 2008, 04:44:27 PM »
Amazed it has come to this these days. I believe that my cap is original to my Oct 68 build 69 Z. When I have a chance, I will get some pics of mine. I do know it looks like those in the pics shown, and I have had the car since 1982, so I'm pretty confident it's the original one. I'll  get back on it.

Seller says he thinks it has 350 crank? How would that work with 302 pistons?? It wouldn't work, would it??

on the cowl tag it has a 10b is that black vinyl top or black stripes ? and why does this tranny not have a C stamped beside the P9P09?

My 10B Z/28 does not have letter suffix on trans either; Mine is P9P11 within 2 days of this one; Suffix was not added until about 3rd week of Oct 68, I believe. Looks correct to me.

I remember reading that the 302 Hemi experiment was not too successful

Is the bracket a Z/28 item only because of the Z aluminum intake manifold? Only reason I can think of to make it different from other small blocks with Power brakes.

Has the CRG published a report on this valve yet? This is the one under the dirver's seat correct? Just curious, as my early 69 Z (Oct '68) does not have it. This apparently is correct, but as to when and why the valve was used is still being researched?

General Discussion / Re: 69 Interior question

On a Camaro without the trim piece and assist grip handle, it mounts above the glove box door. With the trim piece, it mounts more towards the center closer to the ash tray. Look at different Camaro pic's with different interior combinations, and you'll see the two different positions.

That matches my 69 Rally sport with standard interior. It has bright pedal trim, assist grip with the backing plate, and woodgrain trim only on both sides of the steering wheel but not all the way across the passenger side. That was part of the custom interior, I'm assuming. It also has wood grain steering wheel shroud/center with RS emblem.

Thanks, I'm amazed at the different possible trim/option combinations that were available and sold on these cars.

General Discussion / 69 Interior question
« on: January 16, 2008, 05:11:09 PM »
What option/options included the assist grip and molded plastic trim on the passenger's side? Was this Z23? And on all Custom interior cars, ie Z87? I have noticed cars without these items, and the Camaro emblem mounted above the glove box door, where it is moved more towards the center of the interior when they (assist grip and molding) are included, since the assist grip is above the glove box door.

I assume any Camaro could be ordered with these items if not already included as part of another option?

Decoding/Numbers / Re: What do you think of this engine pad and stamp?

I noticed that on the cylinder heads seller lists part no. and casting date, whereas engine block only lists part no. and not casting date, like maybe it does not fit build time frame??

Unfortunately, I am being convinced more every day that as Alan Colvin states in his By the numbers series of books, Camaros more and more have to stand on the merits of the car itself, and not paperwork, as there is so much fraud out there. I like the rusty seat spring marking on the build sheet!

Certified fake for sure.

Jerry

Nothing quite like a "Certified fake". Isn't that an oxymoron or something? Or maybe that's the seller??

General Discussion / Re: 69 cowl induction rarity
« on: January 09, 2008, 07:59:48 PM »
COPOs may not be included in that total. The ducted hood was not listed on documentation as it was included with 9560 & 9561.

Don't forget Z10s-another 500 or so where ZL2 was a required option.

Otherwise, yes. A factory ducted hood 69 is rare. Most Z/28s were not built with one.

I'm wondering if maybe Chevrolet sold more of these hoods over the counter than as original equipment??
