JDV,

There is a 772 fan and clutch for sale on Team Camaro right now. I dont know if the clutch is correct or not.

Thanks for info on the one for sale. Since my car is Oct '68 build, the one for sale isn't technically any more correct than the one I have. I'll keep what I've got. It's not a show car anyway.

Thanks for the help; Interestingly, water pump and radiator are original. Wonder what would cause replacement of this, especially the fan itself?

You're right, fan is different. 3 rivets holding blade. Here's a pic of #'s on blade also.

Is it possible that it is the original, or is it a replacement? 90% of everything else on the car is original, so I never really thought about it being non original until I saw the pics of the others in the CRG report, and noticed it looked different. Can I see date on flange w/o removing it?

Could be the case... It's been on my car since at least 1982, so if it's a replacement, it's been in use for a while. Part no. / date stamp on flange where it's bolt to water pump? On front or back?

That is a late model part - early 90's

Do you mean part is from the 1990 or later?

Just keep in mind that a mixture of antifreeze and water has a lower freezing temp than 100% antifreeze. I remember reading somewhere, like maybe on the antifreeze container, that 70/30 (antifreeze to water) gives lowest freezing temp?

Interesting.....my 10B (Oct 68) Z has 772 fan. your 10C Z has 779 fan. Must be about the time of the changover?

Leaking fuel is most definitely a safety concern.

General Discussion / Re: Vaccum advance hose schematic from your '69 pls

John,

Thanks very much for the article. I'll make the switch. My initial timing is set a 12 BTDC. Should I adjust that?  The little details do add up.

Jimmy V.

Your 12* initial (with VAC disconnected and plugged) should be fine, as long as your total timing (initial plus centrifugal, VAC disconnected) doesn't exceed 36*. Full manifold vacuum will bring your idle timing (initial plus vacuum advance) to about 27*. Your centrifugal curve should be set up tol be "all in" by about 2800 - that's a good baseline to work from for a normally-driven street engine.

Thanks again John, have made the switch and have run in place; Haven't been able to drive it yet, but am anxious to. (have other issues
I'm still working on) It may be my imagination, but it seemed to fire almost instantaneously, unlike before. It actually surprised me a bit how quickly it started, but I know I like it!!

John,

Thanks very much for the article. I'll make the switch. My initial timing is set a 12 BTDC. Should I adjust that? I know factory is 4 BTDC. It is 302. Will I be able to see a difference, like better idle, better throttle response off idle, and maybe lower water temp at idle?

As always, thanks for your invaluable assistance.

Between you and Jerry Mac's tips, I've really been able to improve my 302's performance. The little details do add up.

I'm beginning to think I'm better off with an unrestored Z, even though it's no show car.

John,

I know you probably explained this before, but why do you go to full manifold vacuum from the stock configuration?

Originality / Re: 'late' '69 Z28 Valve Cover drippers

When Chevrolet changed the design to include drippers, wouldn't the part no. stamped inside these change as well? I'm assuming the drippers would be included in the initial casting process?
