General Discussion / Camaro orders
« on: July 12, 2007, 01:01:12 PM »
Curiosity, Who actually initiated orders for 67-69 Camaros? Some were obviously customer initiated by individuals at dealerships. Did dealerships order cars based on what they thought they could sell? ie, colors, models, etc? Did someone in Chevrolet marketing order car models/colors based on what they thought would sell? A combination of all of the above?

General Discussion / 69 Tach - no gauges
« on: July 11, 2007, 02:59:24 PM »
I see a Z/28 on e bay which has a tach, but not oil-water-ammeter-fuel gauges in console. Fuel gauge is between tach and speedometer in dash. I assume this is correct, but do not recall seeing this before?
Is this arrangement pretty uncommon?

General Discussion / X77 Trim
« on: July 08, 2007, 05:35:33 PM »
Would an X77 car come with the chrome wheel opening moldings, chrome quarter panel louvers, and the bright roof drip rails? I thought these were X33 trim?

Decoding/Numbers / Body Tag No. versus VIN
« on: June 29, 2007, 02:52:28 PM »
I know that body no.'s and VIN no.'s are not in sequence, but is there still a general correlation between the two? That is, would an expert looking at a trim tag be able to spot a fake from a body no. that would be out of range for a VIN/build date?

Decoding/Numbers / Wheel Dating
« on: June 19, 2007, 07:03:42 PM »
Can I date a 14x7 YJ wheel from the following:

K19 near hole in center of wheel

5 on one side of valve stem hole

YJ on other side of valve stem hole

K = Kelsey Hayes; 1= Chevrolet

What does the 5 indicate?  Is 9 actual year of manufacture or just production year 69?

Restoration / Rear Main Seal leak
« on: June 13, 2007, 08:58:37 PM »
I have the traditional rear main seal oil drip on my 69 Z 302. Engine runs well, so this is just an annoyance. Can this be fixed removing only the pan, oil pump, and rear main cap?, i.e. without major disassembly. And with a high degree of confidence it will not leak again? Or live with it? Adding oil is no big deal, but it gets oil all over the bottom of the engine/trans, the major cause of my annoyance. Thanks.

Maintenance / Header installation
« on: May 02, 2007, 03:08:26 PM »
I am going to install a new set of headers in my 69 Z in the near future, and wonder what is current thinking regarding gaskets, etc. in order to get a good seal, minimizing exhaust leakage. It's alway been a headache. What's working for others?

Originality / 69 Crossram manifold
« on: April 11, 2007, 04:09:17 PM »
The 69 Z/28 factory aluminum 4bbl intake is blocked off in front where the oil filler tube is located on the 67 version of this manifold. Is this true for a cross ram manifold as well? If a cross ram manifold has an oil filler tube located in front, does this mean it is not a 69 version, but an earlier year? 67 or 68? Or are they all the same?

General Discussion / X mark on rear bulkhead
« on: March 12, 2007, 04:30:19 PM »
Is the X marking on the bulkhead under the rear seat only on cars with X coded trim tags, or is it on earlier cars as well?

General Discussion / Finding orignal owner
« on: March 07, 2007, 02:19:53 PM »
Here's a shot in the dark:

I have a 69 Z/28 Camaro and am looking for original owner. Car is a rally sport, red with a white vinyl top (Trim plate 52E), white stripes, and black standard interior. Believe was purchased in Chillicothe, Ohio area probably in late 1968. (Trim plate build 10B) Originally had chambered exhaust, short spoiler, and  has no factory tach or gauges.

Perhaps original owner reads this site? If this sounds like it was your car, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,

Restoration / 1967 Camaro A/C Evaporater
« on: February 07, 2007, 09:35:25 PM »
Just in case anyone can use an a/c evaporater (the heater exchanger under the dash), I have one which came from a buddy's 1967 SS Camaro which was crashed and parted circa 1976; (damn shame, it was a super car, butternut yellow with SS hub caps, and a bench seat, column shift) I've had it ever since. Can't verify that it does not have something wrong with it, but I believe it is very usable. Also do not have any idea what it is worth? Is this of interest to someone? If so, I'll pull it out and maybe can add more info after looking at it again. Thanks!

Originality / Markings on factory orignal Camaros
« on: December 27, 2006, 04:49:42 PM »
I am starting to see "restored" Camaros with all kinds of paint and chalk markings on tihings like front suspension, rear leaf springs, and a "DZ" chalk mark on a 69 Z Cylinder head. Were all of these markings on original cars? And if they were, does somebody have pic's of orginal cars, or just how do we know this?

Originality / Fender striping on Rally Sport z's
« on: November 30, 2006, 09:45:18 PM »
Did Rally sport Z's come with the striping on the front fenders and rear quarters? Or was this deleted with the rally sport package?

Thanks,

General Discussion / "Rotisserie Restoration"
« on: November 30, 2006, 02:50:20 PM »
I am constantly seeing the term "Rotisserie Restoration" cars for sale ads. What does this mean? Do they mount the car and rotate it like on a barbecue grill? Or does it really mean: This car is for sale by a dealer?
