Originality / 69 Rear Deck Stripe Painting
« on: December 28, 2022, 09:44:01 PM »
When rear deck stripes were required and applied to the Camaro by Fisher, was this done with the deck lid open or closed? I would think closed? If true there wouldn't be a taped off area for the stripes in the trunk lip area like there is for the stripes in the front cowl area.

Maintenance / Wix Racing oil filters
« on: April 08, 2021, 08:07:25 PM »
Anyone use these for their street Camaros? Says for racing only. Wix says they are of higher micron filtration, but less cleaning. Would that matter if the oil is changed regularly?

General Discussion / 1969 Z with Chassis Broadcast Sheet

Any opinions on this one? I thought chassis broadcast sheets on Norwood cars were virtually non existent.

Originality / YH Wheels
« on: January 22, 2020, 08:34:19 PM »
So is 10-24-68 a good known date for YH Rally wheels? I thought that would be the AD wheel time frame? If it is, were the wheels being transitioned from AD to YH by 11A Nov 68?

Restoration / Crate Engine Painting
« on: July 05, 2019, 03:39:47 PM »
So I'm considering getting a new GM crate engine. They are painted black. What is involved in re-painting chevy orange? Can I just paint over the existing black, or do I need to remove the black paint first? If I need to remove the black paint, what's a good procedure?

Maintenance / Upper Control Arm Bumper
« on: March 25, 2019, 07:34:20 PM »
Anyone have any ideas on how to push new bumpers into the underside of the upper control arms? Probably easy when the arms are off the car, but when on the car it's hard to reach under the arm, and then even harder to push the cone shaped rubber part of the bumper through the Upper control arm hole. Hard to grab from above as well as very little of the bumper cone sticks through the hole. Ideas?

Maintenance / Sticking Holley Floats
« on: February 27, 2019, 01:51:47 PM »
I have been experiencing float sticking with my 69 Z. Holley 4053 reproduction unit with plastic floats. As a result, needle is not seating. Results in flooding, leaking fuel, etc. Seems to happen on the secondary side after sitting for a while. After removing the bowl and playing with the float, it's fine. I guessing the fuel in the bowl is drying out over time and then the seat needle sticks open? Anyone else with this experience? Is this the result of today's ethanol based fuel? Any prevention thoughts?

Maintenance / Power Steering Pump seal
« on: January 30, 2019, 02:43:43 PM »
I am in the process of restoring my power steering pump in my 69 Z. I need to replace a seal which is on the original pressure fitting coming out of the back of the pump. The fitting then attaches to the pressure hose routed to the steering gear. The seal is not quite an o ring, as it is wider than an o ring. Sort of the like a tire profile. I'm attaching a pic of the fitting. Note that the fitting I'm referring to is the one on the bottom in the pic (gray/steel colored). The top fitting (brass colored) is a new one and has a female end. The original fitting has a male end. Can anyone identify the seal? (black in color)

Maintenance / Idler Arm 69 Z
« on: July 16, 2018, 01:24:42 PM »
If I need to replace my original idler arm, what should I be using? Seen a lot of discussion about replacement parts that are close but not the same. Or, can an original be re-built?

Maintenance / Power Steering Gear Box
« on: May 29, 2018, 06:28:02 PM »
OK, so my power steering gear box in my 69z is approaching it's 50th year of service. How can I determine if it needs to be re-built? It functions fine, but it seems like there is lots of "float" when steering. I know these units were like that even when new, but I'm wondering if I don't have excessive amount at this point? Car has 102K on it just for reference. Who is the master restorer of these units if it needs help?

General Discussion / Flint Engine Production
« on: March 23, 2018, 03:43:29 PM »
So I understand that Flint was capable of producing every combination small block required during a typical production year. My question is, Did Flint produce a particular engine configuration in batches? Eg, would the 302 have been produced in batches of say, 100 at a time? As opposed to a random production sequence where every different engine produced could be a different configuration. It would seem that this batch approach would be a more efficient method?

Maintenance / Vacuum Noise
« on: September 05, 2017, 07:09:57 PM »
302 in my Z runs great, but I am hearing a high pitched whistle while it runs. It is coming from the carburetor inlet; when I place my hand over the air horn, it disappears. Is this normal, or does someone have an idea what could be the cause? I have a brief video but it's 18.3 MB.

General Discussion / Yenko Camaro

Came across this ad for the first prototype Yenko Camaro? Anyone know the story with this car? Not on the list I have seen?

Maintenance / 69 Camaro Clutch Cross Shaft
« on: May 24, 2017, 06:59:59 PM »
Ok, so I need to remove the clutch cross shaft to re-work my brake lines. Anyone have any tricks for re-installing it as there is a stud which has to slip into a fork mounted to the sub frame. The problem is reaching between the inner fender and the frame to re-install the stud into the fork, as it very close to the inner fender and getting my hand and/or wrench in there is tight. I'm working from inside the front wheel well with the tire removed.
