Originality / Re: 68 bumper bracket

Welcome!  Grill to valence was riveted from factory on my car (SS only)  I know everything you see says RS only but that's way it was on my car and that's the way I put it back so I can't help you on that...but judges didn't seem to have a problem with it...Would swear AMK had a kit with the screws & nuts though.  I believe the upper moulding was just PAL nuts, just like the ones for the heater box.  Sorry but i haven't had a chance to get in the trailer and look yet.  PM me if need to-glad to help if I can, I've been there!

General Discussion / Re: GM Nat's at Carlisle??
« on: July 03, 2009, 02:42:10 PM »
I was there in Concours.  Turnout for the event was light IMO too.  Talked to some vendors that were in other vendors spots and the story was all the same, they couldn't justify the cost of coming against what the sales have been.  The lower vendor field wasn’t even filled.  Met & made a lot of new friends this year though, even met John Hooper & Brian Henderson (Supercar Workshop).  Both great guys.  Jerry had a bad 102 fever and everyone thought he wasn’t going to make it but it broke Friday and there he was Saturday!  Personal THANKS going out to him for his dedication.  Honestly all in all even if this was just a ACA event and not mixed with GM Nationals or Carlisle and was held in a parking lot somewhere I would STILL go just because it's a great time and you couldn't ask for any better people than the people associated with it.

John, how did you do?  Any news on those parts??? ;D  PM/email/call me!

Also what was the finish for the screws that hold the front license bracket on that go into the nylon nuts?  Zinc or Phosphate?  Clear Zinc

I'll look at the other bolts tomorrow.

Restoration / Re: Parking Brake Switch Installation
« on: July 01, 2009, 03:32:08 AM »
The cable holds it in place and there is a clip that keeps the cable in.  When the brake is disengaged the tab depresses the switch breaking contact to ground interrupting the circuit and turning off the light.

PCV should run to base of carb regardless of air cleaner set up, you want full vacuum to the crankcase.  Everything else you changed sounds correct.  Stock would not have a breather but be plumbed into air cleaner base but breather is fine.

Restoration / Re: 1969 Gas Tank
« on: July 01, 2009, 03:11:47 AM »
Since you mentioned "concours correct" I'll add this.  Original tanks were date coded-usually the left front corner as installed.  Some of the aftermarket "stiching" is incorrect, where they join the two halves.  I got a GM one years ago so I don't know about the repops.

Hey I see this is an old post but just wanted to add my 2C because I just ran into this.  My car is a 68 12D LOS.  Original harness was routed outside fender with washer hose retained by the 2 straps.  Got hit at Nationals last year for it not being inside fender so I moved it for this year.  There was a 68 04C LOS Z in survivor this year...had the harness routed outside fender with washer hose.  Noted it to Judges but they said the car had some hardware issues and they never seen it run outside the fender.  If you’re going concours I guess it needs to be inside the fender.

I am getting ready to paint my wife's 67RSSS 396 camaro.
The tail panel was black but what color black?
Simi gloss or some form of matte black?
See the other thread quoted above.  I'm in the semi-gloss (or not full gloss) pack.  It doesn’t make sense to me that if they were full gloss just like the black cars Chevrolet would make a note to NOT black out the tail pan on black car!  Why would they do that if the black-out paint was the same full gloss paint?  As to what percentage of gloss it should be, that's a different story, and if the paint was being flattened at the factory, potentially every batch could have been a little different.  Also have to take into account when the car was prepped at the dealer, some may have buffed the tailpan, some not.  That alone would change how it looked right out the door hence the many different opinions.

Restoration / Re: Trunk Spatter Paint Color for 1st Gens.
« on: June 04, 2009, 11:32:49 PM »
The GM paint is still obtainable. 1051499 for black/aqua   1051498 for gray/white

Question is, does it look the same?  I know GM sells it in the spray can, but I'm fairly certain it doesn't look the same.  Perhaps I'm off on this.  Anyone have experience with it?

It's close, and dries rock hard, but being that it is being sprayed from a can and not a gun the pattern is way off so it looks totally different.

Really appreciate all the help from from everyone so far!!!

Anyone got some some pic's of a original 68 trunk???  Seems almost every pic I see is of a 69 and the ones that aren't don't have the filler neck cover in the shot >:(  Just need to know if it's splattered too and if so is the mounting screw splattered and is the latch support splattered behind where the cover installs?
Thanks Guys!
