Arno,

I have an extra one I found under the carpet (or in the kick panel-can't remember) that I have to dig up but I'll get you a picture.  If you just need something to reference, the Rick's catalog has a pic.

Chris.

Hay,

Off topic and possibly beating a dead horse but 68ZMAN, could you tell me what color your firewall is painted and what's the state of the car...ie, original first restore, been restored, # of owners?

Dan (Sumrtime68rs), could let me know on your friends car???

Thanks and no intention of hijacking this thread...if you want you can reply via PM or email.

Chris.

Paul,

Going off memory here but on my 68 (which should be the same set-up for 67) the wiper switch does have a large star type washer that goes on the switch before it goes through the dash and provides ground.  67's may be different though, may want to check the assembly manual.

Arno,
Looked at my "1968 Chrvrolet Car Selector" (big silver dealer book) and first pic shows a red RS/SS 396 with the inner only hubcaps.  Unfortunatly it's the only picture in the book with this style hubcap.  Looked in my Mitchell part number service book Copyright 1974 and it shows the following;
Cover, full disc
67-3888699
68-69 - 3925886
350-396/67-69 - 3871174
I know this is conflicting info because the pic posted above shows part number 3871174 and has the double black but the pic in the dealer book is a 396 car with the single black ???.....I know that doesen't help any but it's all I got right now!!!
Good luck.

Rick,

Thanks for the advice; I do remember talking with you now (bad with names, good with cars!)  I see I have a big dilemma now!

Any chance you still have some of those trunk light wiring clips laying around??? ;D ;D ;D

I asked this same question a couple of years ago concerning my Sequoia Green car. When I took everything off of the firewall during the most recent restoration (there have been a few of them over the past 27 years), there was body color on the firewall. Things like the blower box, master cylinder, accelerator rod bracket, etc. did not have black paint under them. I repainted it green and did not use any blackout. It may not be correct, but as near as I could tell at the time, that's the way it was when it left the factory.

Just re-read this thread again and not sure why I didn't ask before but JohnKY, if your out there, do you have any pic's from when you pulled your car apart???  That would help a great deal.  Also, what answers did you get when you asked around?

Thanks, Chris.

Rick,

I hear where you’re coming from and appreciate the heads up.  I talked to allot of people at Carlisle last year and was told the same thing by all of them and all asked if I had photo documentation and then was still told by some that it didn't matter!  Do you think the photos posted above will not be enough supporting documentation and if not what would be?  I honestly believe (since I am the on who took the car apart) that the firewall had the original paint on it and was never re-sprayed.  I seriously doubt that someone would re-produce the crayon marks by the blower hole if it was re-sprayed.  I wish I had known about Jerry M and that he was right in Maryland at that time because I would have asked him to come up to look at it before I went any further.  Can't turn back time so now I'm stuck deciding whether I should stick to my belief or bite the bullet and do what everyone say's is correct.    Thanks for the compliments on the car too!

I'm still convinced that although 99.5% of the cars got the blackout, some did not.  68 was a strike year at GM and I've been told that it's not uncommon to find all sorts of "strange" things on cars that year.
Still want more Sequoia Green owners to chime in :)

« on: January 09, 2006, 11:22:14 PM »
Got a question on this one, how many people actually have the 4 blade fixed fan on their 396/325 and how many have a clutch fan?  Would be interested in the year and what options also.  Mine came with the fixed 4 blade fan and I replaced it with the clutch fan because the fixed fan had a stamp on it that read FoMoCo and I took that as Ford Motor Company and obvoiusly not right.  anyone else seen this???  Found the CRG report a while ago and have been questioning it ever since.
My car is a 68/396-325/M20/no AC.

Should be a date code on the rivet that the handle pivots on, that will at least tell you what year the jack is from.  My 68 looks like the gray one.  Thought 67's had the T style shaft?

Arno,
See photo, 8-13/16 from the edge of the extra metal support where the fender bolts to the core support to the center of the hole.

Hope that helps!
